Center celebrates mothers
Marion Senior Center correspondent
Marion Senior Center celebrated spring flowers, piano music, mothers, and doing for others this past week.
Gary and Karen Chaput got commodities in Council Grove and brought them to Marion with an eager crew waiting to distribute them. Jerry Kline, his friend from Ethiopia, Caleb Abbott, and Harold Triggs helped unload the goods. Shirley Moore, Sue Clough, and Clayton and Wanda Hamm boxed everything to be distributed. The center still has commodities available.
On May 10, mothers shared their real-life stories. Center residents compared those tales to television moms. The real mothers then shared some “momisms,” things all moms tell their children. Then we sang, “M is for the million things she gave me.”
Shirley Bowers brought in a vase of irises to display at the center. She also played piano.
Senior Center Day was May 15. Sue Clough conducted the business meeting before lunch. Then Shirley Bowers and Kay Lindsey played piano duets. American Legion representatives Dick Varenhorst and Gary and Karen Chaput gave a presentation on their group’s programs and projects.
May 15 was also Jean Bailey’s birthday and she brought treats.
All are welcome to the center on May 29. The program will be presented by Robert Clark of Schowalter Villa. He plays the piano by ear, specializing in music of the 1920s, ’30s, and ’40s.
The center is closed May 27 for Memorial Day.
