After a recent program on the silk industry in Peabody, Joan Meyer brought in a pamphlet on “The Ill-Fated Kansas Silk Industry.” It seems there was greed, revenge, and power struggled involved in the silk culture in Kansas.
The Pinkettes, the four of us with our pink poodle skirts, have been invited to participate in Burdick’s Labor Day celebration. Marc Baker, who comes to the senior center as Elvis, will be there. We have been asked to judge a dance contest, which is part of the 1950s event. The Pinkettes are Shirley Moore, Thelma Blosser, Norine Holtsclaw, and Janet Bryant.
We enjoyed birthday cake from Erna Mae Yeagley’s 90th party during the weekend.
Two trips planned – a shopping trip June 17 to Newton and a trip July 9 to Crown Uptown Dinner Theatre are planned. The show July 9 will be “Disney’s High School Musical.” Call the senior center for more information.
Also coming up at lunch June 10 will be a program about ethical wills.
