CORRESPONDENTS: Senior Center

Marion County Senior Center correspondent

Do you remember when I suggested in this column the senior center is a celebration place? This week has seen that come true!

Two big birthdays occurred. Ivanlee Timm’s 85th birthday was celebrated Feb. 17. He and Mary Ann live at Hilltop Manor, so a group of those residents came to eat, as did 10 family members. Our in-house cake servers/photographers were in place for 65 partygoers.

On Feb. 18, we surprised Virginia Downing on her 80th birthday. Her daughter, Jackie Magee, had ordered a cake for her, which we kept out of sight.

We have one birthday this week and three scheduled for next week. Call our social director to schedule your special event (not every birthday features cake, by the way).

Shirley Bowers brought a big valentine’s bear she had won. We received a valentine from Charlie and Blanche Cowan.

We continued our Valentine Day celebration Feb. 16, with a skit about the correct answers to questions from spouses. Those play-acting were Leonard Klassen, Larry Blosser, Ralph Popp, Sue Clough, Dorothy Conyers, and Joyce Jackson.

Senior Center Day was Feb. 18.

Greta Smith gave a program about the new USD 408 Sports and Aquatics Center in Marion and its benefits to adults and youth.
