CORRESPONDENTS: Senior Center

The merry month of May has made us a merry bunch, too! The center has good food, good company, and is a good place to be.

We celebrated “Poem in Your Pocket Day” here April 30. Those reading poems were Pauline Edmunds, Jane Vajnar, Thelma Blosser, Larry Blosser, Ellen Darrow, Jean Pierce, Suzanne Thole, and Janet Bryant.

Shirley Bowers brought in the first Iris this week, plus Iris plants to give away.

Herb Jackson brought treats for his birthday, which was the latter part of April. We accept treats no matter how long ago the actual birthday occurred.

A word of appreciation to Vern and Arlene Bowers, who stepped up to deliver meals for three weeks in a row due to the hospitalization of Darrell Weigart, the regular driver.

Elsie Burkholder celebrated her birthday with us May 4.

The Craft Corner participants used their funds to buy six cans of coffee. Some things are not provided by the area agency, so coffee drinkers need to provide for their favorite brew.

The quilters have been working on some very old quilts. One of them belonged to Dale Smith’s mother. It was made in the 1920s using a star pattern. Fred Puttroff Jr. brought the quilt blocks his grandmother had. Shirley Bowers put them together in a design and the quilters finished it for Fred.

“Walk Kansas” is over for another year. The “Senior Center Sensations” went across Kansas twice and back, almost twice. Thanks to some excellent walkers. My own effort on the exercise bicycle probably did not get past the city limits!

Mindy Hill, occupational therapist at St Luke Hospital gave the program May 6. It was very enlightening.

Come join us on May 20, Senior Center Day. There will be program after lunch.
