CORRESPONDENTS: Senior Center

Marion Senior Center correspondent

This cooler weather has really energized us and every day something new and exciting happens!

Some of us attended the annual meeting Oct. 16 of Marion County Senior Citizens in Hillsboro. Ralph Popp took my place at noon, telling jokes and assigning which table went first to eat. Which is a critical responsibility.

Mary Hett brought her cross-stitched butterfly wall hanging which the quilters are working on.

The penny jar contest winner was announced. The jar held $19.95 in coins and Gerry Mills guessed $19.99.

Joyce Jackson’s sister, Dora Lee Clark, came to visit Oct. 20 and it was her birthday, so we sang to her.

In looking through Hilltop Manor’s new cookbook, we discovered Virginia Bowers’ “door slammer chicken.” Yes, you do slam the oven door.

Thelma Blosser brought apple butter for us to put on our dinner rolls. She bought it at the crafts festival.

Flu shots were given here Oct. 21. Make sure you get your shot!

Carrie Lee, a Kansas State University graduate student, was here Oct. 22 with surveys for people to complete. They indicated why people chose to eat at the senior center.

Doug Kjellin, economic developer for the City of Marion, gave a presentation Oct. 22 after lunch. He focused on the recent closing of Golden Living Center and the consequences.

Come join us Nov. 5 when Gayla Ratzlaff, county department for elderly coordinator, will show a video about her adventure climbing Pikes Peak.
