CORRESPONDENTS: Senior Center

Marion Senior Center correspondent

Our first winter blast tested our regular diners, who mostly came anyway, and our Meals-On-Wheels delivery people. They deserve our thanks.

It’s time to remind everyone of our official policy during the winter. If Marion schools are closed because of inclement weather, the senior centers also will be closed. This seldom has happened in my six years here.

Our craft corner is ready for Christmas shoppers with new items nearly every day.

We received a “thank you” from Carrie Lee, a Kansas State University student who surveyed our group about choosing to eat meals at the senior center.

Our most recent area agency newsletter recognized those cooks who keep food costs down. Henrietta Waner was cited for three months in a row — one month keeping meal costs at 98 cents each. We were well-fed, too!

Norine Holtsclaw requested we sing “Jingle Bells” on Dec. 9, then with bells on her clothing did a little dance. The look on her husband Keith’s face was worthy of Desi and Lucy.

Wanda Hamm celebrated her birthday with us Dec. 10.

Elaine Ewert brought Izzie and Estelle, her boxers, Dec. 10 and talked about her book she wrote, “Estelle Wants to Fly.” They were very well-behaved dogs, considering we were eating in front of them.

Theresa Graham and I want people to know it’s OK to bring gifts to us and to place them under our Christmas tree.

Remember the county board meeting is Dec. 19 at the Marion center. Diane Euler, our field representative, will sing during lunch.

On Dec. 22, when we have our Christmas dinner, there will be a program by Sue Clough. It also is designated as Jingle Bell Day, so wear or bring your bells.

There will be a musical program by Ron and Connie Shipman Christmas Eve following lunch.
