Doris and Mildred (with an “H”) were the “displaced residents” Friday morning as the floors in their apartment were scoured and re-waxed. The results certainly do justify the means.

Mass was celebrated that morning with Father Hein in our chapel by our Catholic residents as well as others of the community who joined our group.

Our little schitzu friend, Tiger Siebert, brought both Lu and Ed with her for this week’s visit. This little puff of fluff seemingly has not one ounce of snobbery. She’s a friend to all.

A large contingent of bingo players welcomed Lois Winter and our man Friday, Bill Schimpf, for this week’s afternoon session.

Our scheduled minister was absent Sunday afternoon, opening the door for our staff and residents to carry-on. May read scripture followed by a true story of inspiration and faith. We sang hymns as Lydia played the piano and hand-holding circle was formed as we repeated the Lord’s Prayer.

We prettied some hands and nails Monday morning, played some pitch with Marie Navrat, did some reminiscing regarding the life and times of Martin Luther King Jr., and ended the day with some exer-therapy. The “some”-total kept us quite busy.

There was a steady stream of residents going and coming from Bonnie’s beauty shop Tuesday morning with many others watching all or a portion of the historical event taking place in Washington, D.C. The large-screened TV in our home helped us comprehend the magnitude of the crowd surrounding the Capital grounds.

Dick Pracht kept our prayer group date Wednesday morning. After lunch a capacity crowd climbed aboard our bus on a beautiful January day for a trip to Marion Reservoir. Our route took us past the country home of Florence Ehrlich and her husband, J.C.

We were a little disappointed when our wildlife viewing expectations were flat. To ease our pain, we headed west for ice cream in cones and dishes or soft drinks. It worked!

We sang hymns with Shirley Bowers Thursday morning. In the afternoon, we were pleased to add color to pictures of jayhawks. The sights of a jayhawk with KU blazoned on it’s chest, helped Ruby decide to choose a picture that included our state flag, flower, and reptile, the box turtle.

Early that evening, Ruth, Florence, and Ruby accompanied Sue to Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion for St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary’s annual dinner meeting. Leaving home a little early, we toured the town’s northeast corner which has changed considerably the past few years. As a matter of fact, we sighted a moose and buffalo in a family’s backyard, far more sightings than on our reservoir trip.
