Snicker doodles were the bakers’ choice Friday morning but somehow either the recipe or the way we measured made the cookie dough difficult to press flat without crumbling. So we had nice-sized snicker doodle stones that smelled delicious and could be used ornamentally in gardens.

That afternoon, there was a “repeat performance” of the bingo-calling team of Elsie Reiswig and Bill Schimpf, and they called to a full house.

Even though it was the weekend, we had a doctor in the house Saturday morning — Eugene Vinduska, DDS, father of our plant operations musician Gene. The duo entertained us with trombone and accordion, playing all kinds of music that made us want to dance or at least tap our feet.

We were pleased to have the Reverend Brett Huebner of Our Savior Lutheran Church as the Sunday afternoon guest minister.

Another weekend visitor was 7-year-old Tori Shults who not only is a delightful presence but can play games on a Wii like a pro. She gets a strike, picks up a spare, or hits a home run when at bat. She did her best to help us learn. Thanks to Deanna Steiner for bringing the game for us to try.

We played St. Patrick’s Day bingo Monday afternoon with a shamrock free space. Other card characters were rainbows, pots of gold, harps, and hairy leprechauns.

St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary evidently had the “wearin’ of the green” on their minds Tuesday when they served blarney stones, green mints, and cheese and crackers at this month’s visit, to which we added coffee and iced tea. Thank you, Bea Kelsey, Edith Warneke, Evelyn Bredemeier, Joyce Smith, and Jean Case for a lovely afternoon.

Tiger Siebert, our favorite Shih Tzu made an appearance Tuesday to show off the sweater he was wearing following a new haircut. Not only did he look cute, but he smelled good, too.

Sissy, the Ratzlaff’s black and white cat, also visited a while Tuesday, thanks to Machelle and her family.

After lunch Wednesday, we tried our luck at designing necklaces while stringing beads, which we then personalized with our names.

Shirley Bowers took her place at the piano Thursday morning while we all sang hymns of praise. Even those of us outside the chapel door enjoyed the singing.

Shopping in downtown Marion was the priority of the afternoon’s planned outing. With the remaining time left, we drove around Marion, past places of interest, and took our almost-weekly tour of the county lake.
