The community Christmas party on Dec. 5 was well attended. Parade prizes went to Carla Hajek, first; Tampa Triple T’s 4-H Club, second; and John Hajek, third. Leona Kleiber won the Christmas lighting prize. Santa Claus gave treats to children. Those in attendance ate snacks and played games.
Helen Benson of Raytown, Mo., was a visitor Dec. 6 of Adeline Bernhardt.
Tom and Dee Duggan met Darla Hall and Deb Hall and Kaylee in Herington recently for dinner out in celebration of Deb’s birthday. Later, they visited at Deb and Kaylee’s house.
Mary Clemmer’s nephew, Todd Lowe of Topeka, recently ran in the New York marathon. He completed the 26.2 miles in 3 hours, 31 minutes, 39 seconds. He also had an opportunity to run on the Brooklyn Bridge and visit the Statue of Liberty and World Trade Center.
Mary’s grandson-in-law, Chris Walker, who flies for Bombardier, recently flew a Learjet to Brazil in record time. He also flew in the McConnell Air Force air show.
Mary also received bad news about her grandson Shawn Clemmer, Don’s son, who is suffering complications from eye surgery. He recently went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for evaluation.
Tom and Dee Duggan attended the Herington Middle School basketball game Dec. 2. Their granddaughter, Kaylee Hall, is a member of the team.
Paul and Edna Backhus joined other family members for a pre-Christmas celebration Dec. 5 at the home of Gerald and Alice Youckman in Wichita. Others in attendance were Paul Paulson and Darrell and Laura Paulson of Bartlesville, Okla., and Keith and Lydia Evans of Haysville.
Tampa people attending the annual friendship supper recently at Morning Star Church included Adeline Bernhardt, Lucille Kerbs, Leona Kleiber, Betty Mueller, Tillie Hein, and Tom and Dee Duggan.
Jane Vajnar accompanied Kem and Autumn Chisholm to Manhattan on Dec. 8 to watch the Kansas State University women’s basketball team defeat North Dakota. JuliAnne Chisholm plays on the K-State team.
Tom and Dee Duggan took a bus tour Dec. 4 to Topeka and Tonganoxie. They attended the Festival of Trees in Topeka and Annie’s Country Jubilee in Tonganoxie.
Connie Thompson spent Dec. 3 with her mother, Lucille Kerbs, and helped her with some chores. They ate dinner out in Durham.
Tom and Dee Duggan ate dinner Dec. 1 at the senior center in Goessel. Tom gave a talk about the silver-haired legislature. Afterward, they visited Darla Hall in Wichita, ate dinner out, and shopped.
Anna Mae Stika, Lori Moldenhauer, and Lisa Hanschu attended a memorial service Dec. 2 for Lynn Sader in Ramona. A lunch was served at the senior center after the service.
Members of the Red Hat Society ate dinner out Nov. 29 in Hope. After dinner, they went to the home of Betty Schlesener for the annual cookie exchange, carol singing, and dessert. Others in attendance were Ramona Goracke, Anita Hummel, Allice Bell, Rose Mary Deines, Barbara Askew, Rhea Kolling, Karolyn Schlesener, and Helen Sorenson of Hope and Ramona Beisel, Adeline Bernhardt, Leona Kleiber, and Dee Duggan. Tom Duggan joined the group for dinner in celebration of the Duggans’ wedding anniversary. Later, Tom and Dee visited Verl and Karolyn Schlesener and Rhea and Everett Kolling in Herington.
Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn, Ashton Smith and Sydney, and Lucille Kerbs ate dinner out Nov. 28 in Hillsboro.
Thanksgiving Day guests of Gary and Carole Spohn were Ryan and Jamie Spohn, Adam, and Lauren of Lincoln, Neb.; Melvin Mohn of Lyons; Steve and Sheri Spohn of Hope; and Leo and Sue Yonda and Georgia Spohn.
Nicholas Kleiber visited his grandmother, Leona Kleiber, on Dec. 2.
Guests of Tom and Dee Duggan Thanksgiving Day weekend were Darla Hall and Adam of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington. They also celebrated Tom and Dee’s wedding anniversary.
Leona Kleiber accompanied Lynn and Peggy Kleiber and Nicholas of Salina to Augusta on Thanksgiving Day. They joined other family members at the home of Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielle. Other guests were Sara Vinduska and Matt Frazier of Moundridge, Tim and Amanda Baxa and their neighbor, Les, of Wichita, and Aaron and Holly Routh, Easton, and Payton of Augusta.
Thanksgiving Day dinner guests of Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant, and Cole were Ted and Maxine Zielinski and Tim and Sue Zielinski and sons of Omaha, Neb., and Tillie Hein. The Zielinskis were weekend guests.
Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint Hubbard of Wellington were Thanksgiving Day guests of Adeline Bernhardt. They ate dinner out in Hillsboro and helped Adeline with Christmas decorations.
Lucille Kerbs went to Abilene on Nov. 27. She joined Connie Thompson and Taylor and Jeremy and Allison Sluder for dinner out.
Thanksgiving Day dinner guest of Paul and Edna Backhus were Don and Ophelia Jacobson and Greg Jacobson of Hope, Tom and Bev Reid of Marion, and Brad Backhus. Visitors for the afternoon and evening meal were Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody of Hillsboro; John and Wanda Lewis, Paul, Sarah, and Luke of Wichita; and Jason Backhus and Alisha Barney.
Ron and Lisa Hanschu and Anna hosted a Thanksgiving Day dinner with guests Frank and Anna Mae Stika and Lori Moldenhauer. Additional supper guests were Nikki Stenzel and Tien Antoczyk. Anna Mae, Lori, Lisa, and Anna went Christmas shopping in the afternoon. Anna Mae and Frank returned Nov. 26 and 27.
Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina hosted a family Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Friendship Center in Salina. Those attending included Glenn Kerbs and Dona Wallace of Dodge City; Clayton and Leah Kerbs of Topeka; April Kerbs, Molly Kerbs, and Raymond Deiser of Salina; Connie Thompson and Taylor and Jeremy and Allison Sluder of Abilene; and Russ and Julie Kerbs and Rustyn and Lucille Kerbs. Glenn brought his mother home and stayed the night. After helping her with some chores, Glenn returned home the next day.
