Members of the Shady Ladies Red Hat Society enjoyed dinner out Wednesday in Lost Springs and then went to the former Lost Springs site on the Santa Fe Trail, where Alice Bell presented some history about it as a campsite for travelers on the trail. Others in attendance were Joyce Cox of Abilene, Ramona Goracke, Anita Hummel, and Betty Schlesener of Hope, Phyllis Allen, Barbara Askew, Rose Mary Deines, Rhea Kolling, Karolyn Schlesener, and Helen Sorenson of Herington, Adeline Bernhardt, Dee Duggan, and Leona Kleiber. Ramona Beisel was unable to attend.
Georgia Spohn met Lenora Graham of Florence Monday morning in Hillsboro for Learning in Retirement at Tabor College and dinner out. The 60+ session was an old-fashioned variety show complete with popcorn. Never let the young folks tell you that people in their 70s and 80s do not have talent. The program included vocal music and instrumental numbers on a variety of instruments, as well as some humor.
Dee Duggan attended a meeting of the hospital auxiliaries of Kansas Monday in Herington.
Fifty or 60 relatives gathered at the senior center Sunday to help John and Kathy Oborny celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
Lucille Kerbs accompanied Connie Thompson of Abilene to Topeka Sunday to join other family members at the home of Don and Cecile Penney for dinner and visiting. Others in attendance were Kevin Weyand and Brandon, Jolene Weyand, Shane Weyand, Lindsay Bristol, Ronnie Gooding, Rebecca and Brianna of Topeka, Elmer Gooding, and Tom and Denise McClain and Macy of Tempe, Ariz., and Virgil and Barb Gooding of El Dorado. Al and Lila Gooding came later in the afternoon.
Sunday dinner guests of Paul and Edna Backhus were Bev and Tom Reid of Marion, Mike and Jennifer Jay and Cody and Kelsie Penner of Hillsboro, Jason Backhus, and Brad Backhus.
Leona Kleiber spent Thursday through Sunday with Dean and Becky Routh, Danielle, Allison, and Melody of Augusta. They attended the AGAPE Leaning Co-op eighth grade promotion Friday evening, where Danielle was one of the graduates. The evening also included a spring showcase program and supper. During Leona’s stay, Aaron and Holly Routh, Easton and Payton of Augusta were additional visitors.
Donald and Carolyn Srajer of Omaha, Neb., spent Thursday through Sunday visiting Tillie Hein and Jim and Kris Srajer, Grant and Cole. They attended Cole’s soccer and baseball games.
Tom Duggan attended a meeting of the silver-haired legislature Friday in Abilene.
