Cougars defeated in three quarters at White City

Excellent passing and receiving by the White City Huskies Friday led to a 52-6 victory over the Centre Cougars.

The Huskies completed 13-of-16 passes for 338 yards in a game that ended at 7 minutes, 16 seconds in the third quarter. They had a negative six yards rushing.

White City scored first with a 53-yard pass into the end zone.

The Cougars’ only score came at 3:42 in the first quarter, when Kyle Methvin received a 17-yard pass from quarterback Justin Deines for the touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, and the Huskies led, 8-6.

The six ensuing touchdowns by White City were scored on long passes, and the Huskies added four two-point conversions.

Centre had 98 yards rushing and 66 yards passing. Shane Methvin was Centre’s leading rusher with 13 carries for 31 yards. Houston Svoboda had 10 carries for 29 yards.

Deines threw seven passes for four completions and 30 yards. Kyle Methvin threw four passes for three completions and 36 yards. One pass was intercepted.

Kyle Methvin led on the other side of the ball, receiving three passes for 24 yards. Other receivers were Dallen Thompson 1-for-22, Svoboda 2-for-15, and Kordell Harding 1-for-5.

Centre will play Flint Hills of Rosalia Friday in a homecoming game. Both teams are looking for their first victory.
