Cougars lose to Heat 60-14
Staff writer
Friday proved to be another lousy night for the Centre Cougars, as they lost to Rural Vista at White City, 60-14.
Cougars fans were optimistic at first, when Centre answered a Vista touchdown with one touchdown of its own. Dylan Deines caught a 10-yard pass from Dakota Stimpson for the score, and Stimpson ran for the conversion to tie the game.
The Heat was just getting warmed up, however. They out-tackled and out-paced the Cougars again and again. Vista scored three consecutive touchdowns before Stimpson scored Centre’s second and last touchdown on a 2-yard run midway through the second quarter.
From then on, the game belonged to Vista. They led, 54-14, at halftime and scored early in the third quarter, ending the game early with a 46-point victory.
Vista had a big advantage in the air, completing 10 passes for 204 yards, compared with two for 17 by Centre. Vista also led in rushing yards, 126 to 100.
Centre plays Burrton Friday at Bud Peterson Memorial Field.
