The Cougars outscored Wakefield in the third period to lead, 15-13, but were outscored 19-14 in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, the team finished with a 5-point victory.

Parents’ night

Playing 12-3 Elyria Christian on parents’ night Feb. 7, the 8-9 Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Eagles, 47-43, in a close contest that went into overtime.

Centre had a 16-10 lead after one quarter, but the game tightened after that, with Elyria leading, 24-23, at halftime. Shelby Makovec, Amy Makovec, and Basore combined for 8 points in the third quarter, and Makenzie Deines made a free throw to give Centre a 30-29 lead.

It was nip and tuck in the fourth period. Centre led, 38-34, with one minute remaining but allowed Elyria to get to the free throw line two times to tie the game at 38 and send it into overtime.

A field goal by Kassebaum put the Lady Cougars on top, but a 3-pointer by Elyria turned the lead back to the Lady Eagles. A field goal by Simons and free throws by Amy Makovec, followed by two free throws by Elyria made the score 44-43 in Centre’s favor.

Two free throws by Shelby Makovec and one by Genesis Rudolph in the final seconds of the game gave the Lady Cougars a 4-point victory.
