County athletes win in 3 events at state

Goessel’s Eli Gaeddert won two races and Marion’s Dylan Krause won one to lead Marion County athletes at the state track and field meet over the weekend in Wichita.
Goessel
Gaeddert took first in the 3200-and 1600-meter races and came in fourth in the 800. He totaled 25 points which placed Goessel boys seventh as a team.
The Goessel girls scored points in several events. Delaney Duerksen finished fifth in the 100-hurdles and seventh in the 300-hurdles, setting a new school record with a time of 47.23 seconds.
Nivea Funk finished eighth place in the 100-hurdles. They along with Athena Funk and Mackenzie Voth finished seventh in the 4x100-meter relay.
Altogether, the girls scored nine points and ranked 25th.
Marion
Kraus won the 800-meter run and finished second in the 400-meter dash. Along with Hailey Harshman, Kaelynn Metro, and Maria Carlson, she also was part of the 4x800 relay team that finished seventh.
Caileigh Johnson vaulted to fifth place in pole vault. Madisyn Hulett placed eighth place in discus.
Friday and Saturday evenings were interrupted by lightning delays. After waiting for their turn to jump, Nevaeh Jones and Kate Wessel finished in eighth and ninth respectively in triple jump. The 4x400 relay team of Brylee Smith, Caileigh Johnson, Wessel, and Kraus earned points with a third-place finish.
The Marion girls’ team accumulated 32 points and finished seventh as a team.
For the boys, Jackson Howard, Sam Rziha and Cooper Jirak qualified but did not medal.
The Marion boys scored points in the 4x100 relay, picking up third place with a relay team of Landon Hendricks, Isaac Wesner, Tripp Peterson and Wyatt Soyez. The same athletes also placed fourth in the 4x400 relay. Soyez finished seventh in the 200 meter dash.
The Marion boys earned 13 points and finished 19th as a team.
Hillsboro
Emily Gilke led the Trojan girls with a third place finish in high jump.
Quinlyn Funk placed seventh in the 3200-meter run. With Jaidyn Frantz, Addison Jost and Riley Richert, she also was part of the 4x800 relay team that came in eighth.
Late Saturday, the 4x400 relay team of Richert, Daisy Klein, Jost and Gilke picked up a point with an eighth-place finish.
The Hillsboro girls scored 10 points and finished 25th as a team. Klein threw javelin, but finished 15th.
The Hillsboro boys did not medal in any events but participated in several. Aaron Hein ran the 200 meter dash and finished 10th.
Centre
Jaycee Sticka from Centre finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles.
