County continues to tweak anti-30x30 resolution
Staff writer
County commissioners reviewed county counsel Brad Jantz’s latest revisions to an anti-30x30 resolution Monday before sending it back for more revision.
Jantz was instructed to return Monday with what are expected to be final revisions.
If commissioners come to a consensus on wording of the draft, a vote on the resolution is planned for Aug. 26.
The public will have 30 days to make comment on it.
How public comment would be collected is not yet decided.
Commissioner Kent Becker, who started ongoing discussion of a resolution to prohibit the federal conservation program in April, has not budged.
He considers the initiative a “land grab.” That’s how it was portrayed by a woman who spoke to a Patriots for Liberty group.
“I’m still in favor of a resolution,” Becker said. “I’m just saying if you put a different tool in your toolbox and never have to use it, isn’t it better to have it?”
Zoning administrator Sharon Omstead said 30x30 is a federal program, and the county could do little about it.
County lake roads
Lake resident Greg Wyatt, who presented a letter to commissioners May 20 contending the county has an obligation to take care of roads in residential areas of the lake, returned Monday to say he thought commissioners needed to do more than tell Jantz to talk to him.
When Wyatt talked to commissioners June 4, they directed Jantz to handle the matter with Wyatt.
Jantz sent him a letter July 1, but Wyatt thought he was being stonewalled.
Wyatt said he had contacted a TV reporter and the attorney general’s office.
Jantz said he didn’t disagree with Wyatt’s timeline of events but wanted to set discussion for a later date.
In other business, commissioners approved a 2025 budget after a public hearing at which nobody spoke.
