County eyes accessible parking

Plans to expand handicap-accessible parking at the Marion County Courthouse moved a step closer Friday as county commissioners inspected the site and began narrowing options .
Commissioners generally agreed that commissioner Clarke Dirks would develop a more defined scope of work for consideration June 8. The proposal would reconfigure current parking to add one or two handicap-accessible spaces, create a loading and unloading zone, and potentially include sidewalk improvements before being put out for bids.
Friday’s work session followed earlier discussion. Friday’s work session was to determine what commissioners wanted included in the project.
The work session followed a brief payday meeting. During discussion of claims, Dirks requested a breakdown of services, subscriptions, and hours provided under the county’s information technology contract since April.
Commissioners also spent 20 minutes in executive session with county counselor Brad Jantz regarding active litigation. No action was taken afterward.
In commissioner comments, Jonah Gehring said a resident had asked whether opportunities exist for a shooting range in Marion County.
