County revisits rent on lake lots

Complaints about a 50% increase in rent for mobile home lots at the county lake apparently struck a chord with county commissioner Kent Becker.
Three weeks after commissioners voted to raise annual rent to $1,800 and two weeks after they declined to reconsider their decision commissioner Kent Becker asked commissioners to put a three year freeze on the on rent, which hasn’t increased since 2012.
Lot rent includes electric, water, and trash service. People who have mobile homes at the lake pay only lot rent and gas bills.
In a 3-2 vote Monday, commissioners David Mueller, Jonah Gehring, and, David Crofoot voted against freezing rent and Becker and Randy Dallke voted in favor.
“I just think it’s a business,” Gehring said. “It should be run like a business.”
In other business, Lu Turk, of the county’s department on aging told commissioners that whether seniors will be able to get their income taxes prepared through her department will depend on whether she completes a workshop.
When clients ask whether she will provide income tax help, she says, “Right now, the answer is, I don’t know.”
On another matter, commissioners and county clerk Tina Spencer reviewed a policy on landowners paying for gravel and its transportation for improving roads where they live.
