A mobile tower may be in the county’s future.
Michele Abbott-Becker told Marion County Commission during Monday’s meeting the county is “slated” to receive the $250,000 mobile tower for free, if the county agreed to insure and maintain it.
Grant funds would pay for the purchase.
“It would be a great asset for us to have because we have two of our primary emergency frequencies on one tower,” Abbott-Becker said. If that tower became inoperable, county communications could not be utilized.
The only “catch” is if another county in the region needed to use it, Marion County would be required to transport it to the site.
The commission agreed it would be an asset and for Abbott-Becker to pursue it.
