County starts tax sale process

Staff writer

A number of properties in the county with real estate taxes three years delinquent will be subject to a Sept. 1 tax sale unless the owners pay the taxes due.

County commissioners on Friday signed a resolution to proceed with foreclosure petitions in court and then hold a tax sale.

A list of the property addresses is not yet available.

Commissioners also reviewed bids for tree trimming at Marion County Park and Lake, choosing Weber Tree Service to do the job for $3,520. Trimming is to be completed by May 20.

Commissioners decided to research the possible creation of a county administrator position, with the plan of deciding whether to put a question on a ballot for voters to decide.

Commissioner Dianne Novak, who called for an administrator during her campaign for election, said she’s been in favor of a county administrator position all along.

Commissioner Kent Becker said he first wants information of qualifications needed for a county administrator.

Commission chair Randy Dallke said he’d like the ultimate decision to be made by voters but wants them to know what the cost and benefits would be.

Commissioners decided to gather information and revisit the matter in June.
