Nicole Sanders is only a freshman at Peabody-Burns High School, but she is already making an impact on the county.
After presenting an update for the garden she planted on the southwest corner of the county courthouse, she asked for a countywide community service date, which commissioners agreed with.
Sanders said she would like to see a cleaner community, a healthier world, and more trees and wildlife when asked what result she would like to see in 10 years.
“This county thrives off of volunteers,” Commissioner Dan Holub said.
The commission agreed to set the date on the fourth Friday in April.
Chairman Randy Dallke said he would like to see the day become a long-standing tradition in the community.
Later, after some deliberation with Great Plains Computer Networking owner Lloyd Davies, the commission decided to purchase a new smart television and transmitter for the commission meeting room for $2,235.
Commissioners also agreed to pay $1,550 each for four new tablets, $181 for Microsoft Office on the tablets, and $60 per month per tablet for Internet connectivity.
In addition, the commission:
- Discussed raising the price limit on courthouse purchasing cards from $500 to $1,000 monthly.
- Passed resolutions to have Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford remove yield signs in the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection of 240th St. and Zebulon Rd., and move a stop sign located in the northeast corner of 250th St. and Zebulon to the southeast corner of the same intersection.
- Met in closed session for 10 minutes discussing personnel. No action was taken upon re-entering regular session.
