Craft, antique store moving to Peabody

A Mullinsville craft and antique store is moving to Peabody this year.
CK Vintage co-owners Christopher King and Jonathan Clayton announced their intention to move last week.
“Due to Jonathan’s job situation and requirements changing, we need to move closer and reduce his commute time,” the announcement said.
Clayton, who works for Kansas Department of Commerce in Dodge City, is transferring to Topeka.
He plans to commute from Peabody to Topeka after his move.
He wanted to be in Peabody because he loves Marion County, he said.
CK will be open in Mullinsville only this weekend and next, selling off inventory at clearance savings.
Clayton is still looking for a location in Peabody’s downtown and hopes to open in Peabody by the end of 2023.
“That’s our hope, to have the store open by Christmas,” Clayton said.
They plan to expand their product line to include unique home decor and gifts.
King, a former actor and theater producer who wanted to return to his rural Kansas roots, moved to Clayton’s hometown of Mullinsville.
Before they opened CK Vintage, King started a business making wreaths and garlands, which he sold in a Mullinsville antiques mall.
On Black Friday of 2021, the partners opened a shop on Mullinsville’s Main St., and business has been good, he said. That’s in part because Mullinsville is on US-400 and people passing through often stop to see the store.
When the Commerce Department wanted Clayton to move to Topeka, they chose Peabody.
“We love Peabody and Marion County — Peabody in particular,” King said.
King said the pair had been working hard preparing for the move.
“We’re just kind of crazy, crazy right now with packing the store and our home,” he said.
