Criminal cases

This information was the most current on file in criminal division of Marion County District Court as of March 2. Information often is not available until more than a week after hearings. Journal entries must be checked by the defense, prosecution, and judge before they are filed.

Susan E. Gambrel, 301 N. 4th, Canton; pleaded no-contest to a charge of giving a worthless check Feb. 15. All other charges dismissed. Sentenced to controlling sentence of 90 days in jail, 12 months supervised probation, and must pay $138 court costs, $22 surcharge, $45 booking fee, and $606.78 restitution.

Jerome D. Creed, 301 Santa Fe, Marion; status hearing on a charge of violation of a protection from stalking order continued from Feb. 6 to Feb. 15.

Mindy Sue Herpich, 1492 N. Main #19, McPherson; arraigned Feb. 6 on motion to terminate diversion in three cases, bond changed to $5,000. Ordered to have no contact with Shane Daniels. Hearing scheduled for Feb. 27.

Todd Michael Beneke; arraignment on motion to revoke probation continued from Feb. 6 to Feb. 15. Arraignment on charge of theft continued from Feb. 6 to Feb. 15.

Jana M. Hokanson, 2433 S. Wisconsin, Topeka; waived formal arraignment on Feb. 6, pleaded innocent of a charge of theft by deception, bench trial scheduled for June 18.

Douglas Edward Gable, 219 N. 10th, Herington; motion to suppress hearing held Feb. 6, plea hearing scheduled for Feb. 14 on a charge of failure to appear.

Ethan Wayne Campbell, 260 40th, Newton; sentenced Feb. 8 on a conviction of reckless aggravated battery. Defendant given eight-month prison sentence underlying with 12 months of probation granted. Defendant must pay $195 court costs, $200 DNA database fee, $120 correctional supervision fee, and $45 booking/fingerprint fee, and perform 40 hours of community service.

William Grosse, 1734 150th, Marion; second amended information filed Feb. 27, charging possession of an hallucinogenic drug (marijuana) and possession of marijuana without a taxation stamp.

Bradley W. Shahan, 1111S. Elm, McPherson; pleaded no-contest Feb. 27 to a charge of domestic battery.

Shaun E. Ridder, 503 N. Ohio, Burns; first amended complaint filed Feb. 28, charging assault.
