Staff writers

Marion will host Class 4A and 2A cross-country regionals Saturday morning. Hillsboro and 13 other schools will compete.

For a league meet Thursday, Marion placed fourth as a team for girls and for boys.

Eli Klenda led the boys by capturing fourth place individually. Brooklyn Beery led the girls by placing 17th individually.

“This is going to be an exciting week as we prepare for regionals,” coach Jason Hett said. “The girls and boys are going to have to want it and go compete and attack each step with confidence.

“We have the opportunity to do something special and get both teams to state, but it’s not going to be easy and will take focus and competing past their comfort zone.”

Hillsboro

The Trojans will travel to Marion for regional competition starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.

On Thursday, in Halstead, Hillsboro was led by its girls’ team with Riley Richert finishing fourth individually.

Quinlyn Funk was ninth, and Jaidyn Frantz was 10th.

On the boys’ side, Joseph Kelly led with a 13th-place finish.

Goessel

Eli Gaeddert continues to excel in cross-country.

This week he added Wheat State League champion to his resume, finishing in a time of 16:41.89.

Teammates Aidan Impson, Ezekiel Guhr, and Eduardo Segurado ran their fastest times of the season, and Goessel captured the team trophy for first place.

Five schools competed in the Wheat State League competition.

The Goessel girls placed second place as a team, led by freshman Madelyn Olson, who finished fourth with a time of 24:10.34.

Teammates helped in the team scoring as Elaina Graber, Lara Unger, Emma Wappler, and Moriah Guhr finished sixth through ninth respectively.

The Goessel team finished behind Elyria Christian and ahead of Solomon in team scoring.

The Bluebirds’ next event will be 1A regionals Saturday at Richmond. Central Heights will be the host team.

The top four teams and the top 15 individuals will advance to state Nov. 1 at Wamego Country Club.
