County runners to compete at Marion
Staff writer
Marion will be seeking its fifth straight victory as competition host Thursday in a meet with Centre, Hillsboro, and Goessel runners.
Last Thursday in Herington, the Warrior boys finished second, and the girls placed third.
“Our boys are running on a mission, and I’m proud of them,” coach Jason Hett said. “We are getting there both physically and mentally.”
Eli Klenda finished second individually. Zayden Janzen was fourth, and Harrison Beery was seventh.
Among girls, Brooklyn Beery placed 11th, just missing a medal, but “competed with a very good group of runners,” Hett said.
Hillsboro’s girls’ team was led at Herington by Quinlyn Funk, who finished sixth, and Riley Richert, who finished eighth.
“Nothing too interesting to report from our high school boys,” Centre coach Caleb Reimer said, “but our middle school teams have been finding some success.”
Eighth-grader Evan Makovec won among girls, and Aaron Carlson placed sixth among boys.
Centre’s seventh grade boys’ team finished second.
Marion, Hillsboro, Centre, and Goessel will be in Marion this Thursday.
Goessel’s meet last week at Rock City was postponed because of rain.
