After four years of winning its annual cross-country meet, Marion was dethroned Thursday.
The Warrior boys finished second and girls third. Hillsboro’s girl placed first in the five-kilometer event.
“It takes a lot of work and preparation to host a meet, and I’m thankful to everyone who helped make our meet a success,” Marion coach Jason Hett said. “A lot of hours have gone in, getting our course ready to go, and I thought it was in pretty good shape for our home meet.”
Between middle school and high school athletes, 389 runners competed.
Individually, Hillsboro’s Riley Richert placed fourth, Quinlyn Funk was sixth, and Jaidyn Frantz was 11th. Marion’s Brooklyn Beery was 15th.
On the boy’s side, Marion’s Eli Klenda was fourth, and Zayden Janzen was 11th. Goessel’s Aidan Impson finished 13th, and Hillsboro’s Joseph Kelley was 23rd.
Marion and Centre runners will travel Thursday to Halstead while Hillsboro runners will be ,at Berean Academy.
Goessel’s team split last week, with Eli Gaeddert running at the prestigious Rim Rock course at Lawrence and the rest of the team running at Marion.
Gaeddert finished second out of 500 runners Saturday in the Blue Division at Rim Rock. He ran his fastest time of the season, 16:37.18.
