Dad accused of torture

Warrant still out for mother

Staff writer

A Burns father was arrested Monday on a warrant alleging felony child abuse.

Tylor D. Patterson, 26, Burns, formally was charged July 10 with torturing or cruelly beating, striking, or kicking his 4-year-old son using a deadly weapon June 8.

Patterson was booked into jail at 5:54 p.m. Monday and released on $15,000 surety bond two hours later. Undersheriff Larry Starkey said Patterson put up no resistance.

Still wanted on the same charge is the boy’s mother, Nadia Ann Marie Simon, 21, also of Burns.

The charges are Level 3 felonies. If convicted, sentencing guidelines call for a prison sentence of between 4½ years to 20½ years, depending on criminal histories.

Sheriff Jeff Soyez said the boy was taken by ambulance to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital for treatment. He and his 4-month-old sibling were released to an aunt.

Parents told deputies the child injured himself, Soyez said.

Patterson was charged in Butler County in 2022 with criminal damage to property, but the charge was dismissed. He was charged with seven traffic infractions in four counties between 2013 and 2023.
