Clarke Dirks unseated him, 184-152. Dirks will face Democrat Randy Eitzen in November.

Mike Beneke defeated former commissioner Dianne Novak, 247-128, for the Republican nomination to face independent incumbent Dave Mueller in the 2nd District.
