Darlene McVey

No public service is planned for Darlene Elaine (Funk) McVey, 87, who died Nov. 28 in Goessel.

She was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas; was adopted a week later by Ferdinand and Agnes Funk; and grew up on a farm near Goessel.

After being baptized May 28, 1950, at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church and graduating in 1954 from Goessel High School, she moved to Kansas City and worked as a licensed practical nurse for 47 years.

She married Frank Stoebick on April 14, 1956. They divorced in 1968, and she married Jimmie McVey in 1972. He died May 6, 2014.

She lived in Peru, Indiana, for nearly 30 years before moving to Bethesda Home in Goessel in October.

Survivors include sons Terry Stoebick and Jason McVey, stepbrother Gerald Janzen, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A brother, a stepbrother, a stepsister, a stepson and two stepdaughters preceded her in death.

Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro, is in charge of arrangements.
