David Bowers

David H. Bowers, 85, Marion, died Sept. 20, 2008.

Born May 25, 1923, at Hope, he was the youngest child of Harvey and Nettie (Lininger) Bowers.

He graduated from Clements High School in 1943. In 1945, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1946.

On May 31, 1950, he married Shirley Jean Collett at Youngtown Church, northeast of Marion.

He was a lifelong farmer and worked as a mechanic at Hett’s Implement and the Marion County Road Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Dale, and Roland; and two sisters, Gladys Lucille Bowers and Wilma Hett; two grandsons, Levi Daniel Bowers and Stephen James Bowers.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Marion; five sons, Greg and Mary Beth, Russell and Stephanie, Richard, Brian and Shelinda, and Daniel and Kim; four daughters, Bev and Kevin Jennison, Mary Lou and Rick Just, Betsy and Randy Bunnel, and Janelle and Doug Paden; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A committal service was held Tuesday morning at Grant Township Cemetery, followed by a funeral service at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion.

Memorial funds have been established with Eastmoor United Methodist Church or the Gideons International.
