Peabody City Administrator Jeff Benbrook met with architect Elizabeth Smith to review the city shop and city building to evaluate their structural integrity.
A story in a recent issue of Capper’s Weekly featured plans by Peabody native Bernie Hansen to reopen Alma Cheese, a specialty cheese factory in Alma. Hansen owned and operated Alma Cheese from 1984 to 1988 when it was sold to a group of investors. It has been closed for three years.
Benard Mayos Stromberg, 91, well-known dairyman in the Florence area, died Dec. 29, 2003, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.

Lyle Leppke, rural Marion, has been elected as the 1989 chairperson of the Marion County Extension Council.
A reception honoring Muriel Wolfersperger, on the occasion of her retirement from the Peabody Central Office staff, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 8 in the Brown Building at Peabody High School. She has been with the district office staff for 20 years.
Peggy Behrenalt, former longtime Peabody resident, died Dec. 28 at her home.

Hope for improved local medical service brightened somewhat this week with the announcement that the Bethel Clinic has rented the offices of Dr. Robert Wood on N. Maple with the intention of opening a “branch office” here.
Jack DeForest arrived Friday from Bogota, Columbia, to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John DeForest and other relatives.
Mrs. Herman Heyland was dismissed last week from Bethesda Hospital at Goessel.

The women of the 2oth Century Club last week talked of town improvements — sale of tobacco to minors, chickens running loose, vicious dogs running loose, who pickets cows in the suburbs, who keeps hogs in town and the most favored project seemed to be a town clock on the city building to strike the hours and be conspicuous enough to be seen at some distance.
Miss Lily Jones and Frank Uphoff were married Wednesday of last week in Wichita.
A telephone was installed last week in the Professor’s office at the high school, the number being 94.

Miss Hettie Brockett is here visiting her sister, Mrs. L.A. Buck during the holidays.
Miss Fanny Waring is home from State Normal to spend the holidays.
Mrs. John Sands has our thanks for a big roll of the splendid butter for which she is famous and very appropriately she remembers the printers at Christmastide. May she live long and prosper.
