Deputy moves to detective

Deputy Derek Fetrow will fill a detective vacancy in the sheriff’s department created by the departure of Wilma Mueller, Sheriff Robert Craft confirmed Monday.

The position was advertised July 19. Craft said Fetrow’s experience in the department would be beneficial in making the transition to a multifaceted role.

“That person has to work the road occasionally to fill in and cover shifts,” Craft said. “They investigate all sorts of criminal activity. Sometimes the cases come directly to the detective; sometimes they’re something another officer has taken a report on and can’t devote the time to it that needs to be.”

Fetrow has been a patrol deputy since coming to the department in May 2012 from Chase County.
