Drugs found in aimless driver’s car

A Wichita man found aimlessly driving around Hillsboro and on US-50 and US-56 Thursday ended up arrested on drug charges after he could not give an account of where he was going or why.
Mark W. Gipson, 59, Wichita, was stopped on US-56 by deputy Joel Womochil.
Marion County sheriff Jeff Soyez said when Gipson was questioned, he said he was driving to Kansas City and wanted a motel room.
“He kept saying he was looking for a hotel even though he had passed the hotel several times,” Soyez said. “His direction of travel where he was going did not match where he said he was going.”
Womochil summoned canine handler Matthew Regier to bring the department’s drug dog, Yoko.
During the search, methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were found in Gipson’s vehicle, leading to his arrest.
Soyez said the methamphetamine found was “a little over a personal use” amount.
Gipson was also cited for driving with a defective tail light and no proof of liability insurance.
He was released from jail Friday on a $5,000 own recognizance bond.
