Duckwall building has lookers

Managing editor

There are several people interested in occupying the Duckwall building in downtown Marion.

Assistant city administrator Doug Kjellin told the city council Monday evening.

Since Duckwall announced it was closing Jan. 9, plans have been set in motion for a similar business in the same location as Duckwall.

In other business

  • The city will apply for a $230,000 grant to make improvements at the city airport. If the city is successful in receiving the funds, a new hangar and improvements to a taxiway would be completed with the grant paying 90 percent and the city paying 10 percent.
  • New bylaws for the airport board have not yet been approved by the airport board.
  • The city will continue to participate in the county neighborhood revitalization program.
  • APAC-Shears of Kansas will be given a 20-day extension to complete street work on Highland, Freeborn, and Melvin streets.
  • City offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 27 for Christmas. The next council meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 28.
