Earl C. “Doc” Wood, DVM, 80, died Sept. 13, 2008, at St. Luke Living Center, Marion.

Born Nov. 3, 1927, near Elmdale, he was the son of Paul and Olive (Cope) Wood.

On Aug. 11, 1948, he married Louise Shaddox.

He owned and operated Marion Veterinary Clinic for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by brother, Howard Wood; sister, Ruth Kissel; and grandson, Daniel Tharp.

Survivors include his wife, Louise of Marion; son, Mike and Marian Wood of Emporia; four daughters, Pat and Vince Tharp of Cedar Hills, Utah, Sue and Jon Melvin of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Becky and Reese Champlain of Concordia, and Nancy and Blair Tharp of Marion; brother, Stanley Wood of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; two sisters, Janet Wood of Long Beach, Calif., and Pauline Ferrell of Council Grove; and 11 grandchildren.

The family will greet friends and neighbors from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Elmdale Cemetery Church, Elmdale.

Memorial funds have been established with Elmdale Cemetery Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
