Eldon Wiens
Services for Eldon Wayne Wiens, 91, who died Thursday in Hillsboro, will be 11 a.m. this Thursday at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Hillsboro.
Relatives will receive friends 5 to 7 tonight at Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
Born Sept. 21, 1933, to J.B. and Agnes Wiens on their farm a mile west of the church, he attended Cresswell School and graduated in 1951 from Hillsboro High School. He was baptized Aug. 4, 1946, and became a lifetime member of Ebenfeld Church.
He married neighbor and fellow church member LaVonne Seibel on Nov. 30, 1952. They settled onto a rented farm west of Marion and farmed about 160 acres while he also worked part-time in construction and trucking.
In 1959, they moved back to his boyhood home, taking over for his parents. They remained there for 52 years until retiring from farming in August, 2020, and moving to Hillsboro.
Survivors include wife LaVonne of Hillsboro; children Brad Wiens of Hillsboro; Diane Schmidt of Hillsboro; Kim Wiens of Midlothian, Texas; and Cheryl Kauffman of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Sisters Phyllis Litke and Marlene Schwind preceded him in death.
A memorial has been established with the church school’s painting project.
