Elinor Kliewer

Services for Elinor R. Kliewer, 91, who died Sept. 7 at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

Born Dec. 8, 1933, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, to Henry S. and Emma Boese Ewert, she attended a one-room school in Wolf Point, Montana, and graduated from Immanuel Academy in Reedley, California.

She attended Tabor College in 1952 and met her future husband, Jonah C. Kliewer, whom she married June 24, 1955, in Reedley.

She was a homemaker and worked for 23 years as a library assistant and mail clerk at Tabor College. After retirement, she and her husband were tour guides on bus trips with Prudent Tours. She also volunteered at Et Cetera Shop and Mennonite Central Committee headquarters, served with the Arts and Crafts Association, and was deaconess at Hillsboro M.B. Church.

Survivors include children Jan Kliewer of Powell, Wyoming; Ken Kliewer of Hillsboro; Joan Kennedy of Omaha; and David Kliewer of Newton; brother Calvin Ewert of Lodi, California; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Her husband and sisters Wilma and Annette, brother Alden, and a grandson preceded her in death.
