DISPATCHES

Monitoring equipment recorded the following radio dispatches to ambulances and fire departments in Marion County:

JULY 1

4:41 p.m. — Peabody EMTs and firefighters were called to a burning fence at 8th and Poplar streets in Peabody.

10:38 p.m. — Goessel firefighters spent until 12:06 a.m. at the scene of a fire, details of which were garbled.

JULY 2

10:11 a.m. — Hillsboro EMTs and firefighters were dispatched to a stubble fire that grew out of control near 220th and Indigo roads.

10:29 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied by the stubble fire, Peabody EMTs initially were dispatched to Hillsboro Community Hospital for a patient transfer. However, Hillsboro ambulance was released from the fire and handled the transfer to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

12:18 a.m. — Tampa firefighters and EMTs were called to assist Roxbury firefighters with a structure fire. Crews remained on the scene until 4:55 p.m.

6:03 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs and firefighters and Lehigh firefighters were dispatched to a tractor and baler fire that grew to include field and possible structure fires at Alamo and 240th roads. The last firefighting units remained on the scene until 1:01 a.m.

9:36 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs transported a person suffering seizures from Marion Street in Lehigh to HCH.

JULY 3

1:10 p.m. — Tampa ambulance and Lincolnville first responders were dispatched to the 500 block of Wichita Street in Lincolnville for a patient suffering seizures. No first responders replied. The ambulance arrived at 1:31 p.m. and transported the patient to Herington Municipal Hospital.

8:33 p.m. — Peabody EMTs were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of North Elm Street in Peabody but the patient declined to be transported.

9:37 p.m. — Goessel firefighters and Hillsboro EMTs responded to a report of a fence and field fire caused by fireworks in the 300 block of Commercial Street in Goessel.

9:39 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters were dispatched to a ditch fire at 220th and Indigo roads. Hillsboro EMTs, cleared of the Goessel call before their arrival, checked whether they were needed but were not.

9:58 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters at the 220th and Indigo fire were informed of calls expressing concern about hot embers from a fireworks display in Hillsboro. Some firefighters were sent there.

10:42 p.m. — Peabody EMTs transported to Newton Medical Center a 22-year-old male complaining of chest pains in the 500 block of North Elm Street in Peabody.

July 4

2:36 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters and Marion EMTs were dispatched to 240th and Upland roads for a stubble fire.

3:47 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs transported a patient with a fever and high blood pressure from Bethesda Home, Goessel, to Newton Medical Center. Goessel first responders were paged to provide lifting assistance but none were available. Goessel firefighters responded instead.

4:15 p.m. — Lincolnville firefighters were still refilling their vehicles with fuel and water from an earlier fire when they, Lincolnville first responders and Marion EMTs were dispatched to a ditch fire at 290th and Timber roads.

7:15 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs were dispatched to an alley between Adams and Madison streets in Hillsboro for a male reportedly assaulted by a female. Only first responders were available so Marion EMTs were dispatched. At 7:21 p.m., Marion EMTs were told to disregard because Hillsboro now had an EMT and a first responder to handle the call. The patient ended up declining transport to a hospital.

8:13 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs were dispatched to a rollover accident near 90th and Goldenrod roads and requested that an air ambulance be placed on standby, although it ended up not being needed. Goessel firefighters also were dispatched at 8:28 p.m. Hillsboro ambulance transported a patient to Newton Medical Center at 8:51 p.m.

8:45 p.m. — Peabody EMTs were dispatched to Bethesda Home for a non-emergency transport to Newton Medical Center. Four minutes later the call was reassigned to Marion EMTs and Peabody EMTs were told to stand down. Marion ambulance returned to its station at 11:11 p.m.

9:13 p.m. — Marion firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire near the old Kingfisher’s Inn restaurant at Marion County Park and Lake.

10:03 p.m. — Ramona firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire in the 400 block of North F Street in Ramona.

10:35 p.m. — Peabody firefighters responded to a series of reports of smoldering embers, presumably related to fireworks, until at least 11:10 p.m.

10:46 p.m. — Ramona firefighters were dispatched to a second grass fire, this one in the 1800 block of 340th Road in Ramona. Tampa firefighters were paged 10 minutes later to provide a tanker. After no apparent response from Tampa, Lost Springs firefighters were paged instead. Three minutes later, however, Lost Springs firefighters were told to disregard.

11:34 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters were dispatched to a trash container on fire in the 200 block of South Madison Street in Hillsboro.

THURSDAY

12:17 a.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire at 59th Street and Newell Road.

6:29 a.m. — A Lincolnville firefighter reported extinguishing a utility pole on fire along railroad tracks at 6th Street in Lincolnville.

10:23 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Elm Street. in Hillsboro to investigate a small fire and what was wrongly feared to be a gas leak.

2:45 p.m. — Marion firefighters and Hillsboro EMTs were dispatched to a controlled burn that flared out of control at 170th Road west of Nighthawk Road.

2:50 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched to a vehicle fire. Location and other details were garbled.

9:09 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters and EMTs were dispatched to a grass fire at 220th and Jade roads.

FRIDAY

9:54 a.m. — Peabody EMTs transported a patient with diabetic complications to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, from the 400 block of North Locust Street in Peabody.

12:27 p.m. — Marion and Florence firefighters and Florence EMTs were dispatched to a grass fire on 140th Road west of U.S. 77.

3:07 p.m. — With Hillsboro’s ambulance being serviced, Marion ambulance No. 1 was dispatched to HCH to transfer a patient to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis, Wichita.

3:15 p.m. — Hillsboro first responders and Marion ambulance No. 2 were dispatched to Parkside Homes in Hillsboro for a 92-year-old woman who had fallen. An insufficient number of Marion EMTs responded, but Marion ambulance No. 1, already en route to Hillsboro, requested permission to handle the call before making its assigned transfer to Wichita. A physician at HCH approved. Hillsboro EMTs, responding as first responders without their ambulance, also went to Parkside Homes and volunteered to remain with the patient at HCH so Marion EMTs could more quickly depart for Wichita. Marion ambulance returned to quarters at 6:15 p.m.

4:49 p.m. — Lost Springs and Tampa firefighters and Tampa EMTs were dispatched to a pasture fire at 370th and Diamond roads.

SATURDAY

7:11 a.m. — Marion ambulance transported a woman with chest pains from the 100 block of North Roosevelt Street to St. Luke.

9:12 a.m. — Forty minutes after returning from St. Luke, Marion ambulance was summoned to make an emergency transfer from St. Luke to St. Francis, Wichita. The ambulance returned to quarters at 12:55 p.m.

3:03 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs and Goessel firefighters and first responders were dispatched to an out-of-control brush fire near Chisholm Trail and 130th roads.

Around 5 p.m. — Tampa ambulance had at least two calls that were not completely recorded because of technical difficulties at the newspaper office.

9:33 p.m. — Hillsboro EMTs transported to HCH a patient in his 70s who had fallen at Oakwood Apartments in Hillsboro.

9:36 p.m. — Marion EMTs responded to a report of a woman with diabetic problems in the 1500 block of East Main Street, Marion. At 10:19 p.m., EMTs reported they would not be transporting the patient but asked whether St. Luke Hospital had been monitoring the call. The ambulance returned to it quarters at 10:38 p.m.

11:11 p.m. — Lost Springs firefighters were dispatched to a field fire near 350th and Mustang roads.

SUNDAY

6:45 p.m. — Marion EMTs, multiple law enforcement officers, and a coroner were dispatched to a drowning east of the dam at Marion County Park and Lake.

Monday

8:33 a.m. — A female in her 80s with chest pains in the 100 block of Billings Street was transported by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital.

4:39 p.m. — A male in his 70s with a possible stroke in the 200 block of Church Street in Goessel was transported by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical Center. Goessel first responders and Goessel Fire Department assisted on the call.
