Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

FEB. 6

2:45 a.m. — A patient at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance.

10:13 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred a patient from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

10:48 a.m. — Cattle that escaped from a rolled-over semitrailer at the US-56/77/K-150 roundabout were rounded up by sheriff’s deputies.

With Marion ambulance already on another call, the semi driver was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Luke, where he was treated and released.

Marion firefighters and police, state highway workers and troopers, the county’s emergency medical service and emergency management directors, and staff from area veterinary clinics assisted.

Many remained on the scene for nearly two hours. Peabody ambulance also was summoned but quickly was told to disregard the call.

1:10 p.m. — A man who fell near 290th and Sunflower Rds. and was still on the ground six hours later was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. A third Tampa ambulance attendant, a first responder from Lincolnville, and the county emergency medical director also responded.

3:34 p.m. — A 75-year-old Salem Home resident with nausea, vomiting, and abnormal lab tests was ordered by her physician to be transported to Hillsboro Community Hospital. With Hillsboro ambulance being repaired at the time, Marion ambulance handled the call.

9:06 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman who fell at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion and was having trouble breathing was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

FEB. 7

3:26 a.m. — A woman who fell in a parking lot at Homestead was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:17 a.m. — An 83-year-old woman who felt ill and had been vomiting was taken from the 300 block of Grand View St. in Florence to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance. A first responder from Florence was first on the scene.

1:36 p.m. — A false alarm from a carbon monoxide detector at a residence in the 500 block of N. Coble St. was investigated by Marion firefighters.

5:45 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to McPherson Hospital by Marion ambulance.

10:07 p.m. — After being asked to call St. Luke then visiting there to assist with a pediatric patient, Marion ambulance transferred a patient to Newton Med.

THURSDAY

2:01 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman with flu-like symptoms was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med from a residence near K-15 and 160th Rd.

3:11 a.m. — A woman who fell at a residence near US-56/77 and 320th Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.

4:55 a.m. — A women who fell at a residence in the 300 block of N. 1st St. was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

7:23 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

5:01 p.m. — A 87-year-old man who was feeling ill and dizzy at a residence on Strassburg Rd. at Marion Reservoir was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

8:43 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

11:17 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:31 p.m. — A woman who may have overdosed in the 300 block of Locust St. in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance.

FRIDAY

4:24 a.m. — A 62-year-old man with chest pains and trouble breathing in the 300 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance was paged to rendezvous if a paramedic was needed but was told to disregard the call.

9:46 a.m. — A women who was feeling weak and almost passed out at St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary’s thrift shop in downtown Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:16 a.m. — An HCH patient with a cardiac monitor and receiving oxygen and intravenous fluids was transferred to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:07 p.m. — A 70-year-old women recovering from a previous spinal fracture fell in the 200 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro, could not get up, and was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance, filling in for Hillsboro ambulance, which was still tied up on a previous call. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift.

3:32 p.m. — Peabody ambulance responded to a call about a Peabody Health and Rehab resident with low oxygen levels. Additional information about the call was garbled.

5:35 p.m. — Lost Springs firefighters, Marion rescue squad, Tampa ambulance, and the county emergency medical services director all responded to a one-vehicle accident on 350th Rd. between Remington and Sunflower Rds., but no patient was transported.

6:34 p.m. — An 83-year-old woman with stomach pain in 300 block of Grandview St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Florence ambulance.

7:23 p.m. — An 85-year-old man who reported needing help getting out of a chair in the 700 block of S. Lincoln St. turned out to be more seriously ill and was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters helped lift him.

8:57 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:02 p.m. — A 86-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. declined to be transported to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:32 p.m. — A suicidal person at Oakwood Apartments in Hillsboro was transported to HCH by Hillsboro police. Hillsboro ambulance, also paged, was told to disregard the call.

SATURDAY

2:25 a.m. — An elderly man whose medical alert system indicated he had fallen at a residence near 150th Rd. and K-15 was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

9:16 a.m. — A 63-year-old man with trouble breathing, possibly as a reaction to antibiotics, at a residence on 90th Rd. near the McPherson County line was tended to by a Hesston ambulance, which already was on the scene when two first responders from Goessel arrived 12 minutes after the call. Hillsboro ambulance, which was still eight miles away, was told to disregard the call.

12:48 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman who passed out at a dining room table at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

12:47 a.m. — An 80-year-old Peabody Health and Rehab patient who may have suffered a stroke was taken to Newton Med by Peabody ambulance. Marion ambulance initially volunteered to back up Peabody ambulance but was told it was not needed.

7:22 a.m. — What appeared to be the same patient who earlier was taken to Newton Med was returned to Peabody Health and Rehab by Peabody ambulance. The county emergency medical services director approved the transfer. The ambulance was back in its station at 8:40 a.m.

6:53 p.m. — Asked to check on the welfare of a resident at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody, Peabody police and ambulance attendants found the resident dead and summoned a coroner.

7:13 p.m. — A 57-year-old man with chest pains and a history of cardiac problems was taken from Westview Manor in Peabody to Newton Med. With Peabody ambulance still on the previous call, Florence ambulance was dispatched.

MONDAY

12:11 a.m. — At the request of an off-duty ambulance attendant, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro and transported a patient to HCH.

12:16 p.m. — A Parkside Homes resident who fell and hit her head was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:42 p.m. — A woman suffering leg and hip pain in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Tampa was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.

4:29 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to a report of a 34-year-old man possibly suffering a seizure in the 200 block of W. Juniper St. in Hillsboro. He presumably was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance; however, interference blocked monitoring of portions of the call.

4:34 p.m. — A report of smoke from embers of a refuse fire reportedly started by workers behind Hillsboro Senior Center was checked by Hillsboro firefighters.

5:28 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman with respiratory issues at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. A lone ambulance attendant in Peabody ambulance also was dispatched as a first responder.

7:04 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Prairie View mental health center in Newton by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:25 pm. — An HCH patient was transferred to Kansas Heart by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:29 p.m. — A woman who fell in the 1500 block of Victory Lane in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
