Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

DEC. 27

10:55 a.m. — A 76-year-old cancer patient in the 100 block of Locust St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:14 p.m. — A 67-year-old woman, unresponsive and with labored breathing, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital from an apartment in the 500 block of Grand Ave.

6:59 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:25 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Medical Center by Marion ambulance. Neither Marion ambulance nor Hillsboro ambulance returned to their stations until after 9:46 p.m.

DEC. 28

5:31 a.m. — A 72-year-old cancer patient suffering stomach pain in the 200 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:56 a.m. — A man who was throwing up and suffering abdominal pain in the 400 block of W. 8th St. in Florence was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

12:49 p.m. — A lethargic 90-year-old man recently released from a hospital was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to St. Luke from the 600 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro.

1:15 p.m. — A medical alert activated on behalf of a resident of Homestead Senior Residences in Marion was determined by Marion ambulance to be a false alarm.

4:02 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

5:36 p.m. — A woman, 30 weeks’ pregnant and feeling pressure but unsure whether it was from contractions, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance from the 300 block of N. Washington St. to Newton Med.

5:55 p.m. — Marion ambulance, returning from Newton, and Hillsboro firefighters and rescue squad were dispatched but ended up not being needed for a one-vehicle accident in which airbags were deployed 1½ miles east of Hillsboro on US-56.

DEC. 29

No fire or ambulance calls were recorded

DEC. 30

12:03 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman bleeding from a leg wound was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med from Parkside Senior Homes in Hillsboro.

12:50 a.m. — A 17-year-old boy having a seizure in the 400 block of N. Lincolnville Ave. in Lincolnville was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. First responders from Lincolnville assisted. Tampa ambulance, which was paged before Marion ambulance volunteered to respond, arrived after Marion ambulance.

12:56 a.m. — A 78-year-old man having trouble breathing in the 900 block of Marion St. in Florence was taken to Newton Med by Florence ambulance, which volunteered to respond after Peabody ambulance was paged.

1:48 a.m. — With Marion ambulance still at St. Luke on an earlier call, Hillsboro ambulance was sent to Homestead apartments in Marion for a 65-year-old man having trouble breathing. The patient declined to be transported to a hospital.

3:29 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

5:51 a.m. — Just two minutes after returning from Wesley, Marion ambulance was sent to Hilltop Manor apartments for a 51-year-old man with serious diabetic difficulties. He was taken to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

1:47 p.m. — Marion firefighters quickly extinguished a minor oil fire involving a vehicle outside Carlsons’ Grocery.

8:05 p.m. — A woman, 11 weeks’ pregnant and suffering abdominal pain, was examined by Peabody ambulance at a residence in the 700 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody. She declined to be taken to a hospital and told ambulance attendants she would go to Newton Med by private vehicle.

11:09 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

DEC. 31

9:53 a.m. — Ramona firefighters were paged to help Dickinson County ambulance attendants lift a patient in the 400 block of N. B St. in Ramona. The ambulance took 40 minutes to arrive.

2:36 p.m. — A St. Luke Clinic patient with possible gastrointestinal bleeding was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance.

8:49 p.m. — Hillsboro, Marion, and Tampa ambulances were sent to Goessel High School, and Florence ambulance was relocated to Marion, as a precaution during an armed standoff in Goessel.

JAN. 1

1:15 p.m. — A Bethesda Home patient who fell several days earlier was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not respond.

2:58 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.

3:34 p.m. — An elderly woman who fell and might have broken her arm at Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. First responders from Lincolnville assisted.

THURSDAY

1:14 a.m. — A downed power line on private property near Broadway and Washington Sts. was checked by Burns firefighters.

11:15 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:17 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Wesley by Marion ambulance.

9:18 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Salina Regional Hospital by Marion ambulance.

FRIDAY

11:58 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to McPherson Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:40 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to St. Francis by Marion ambulance.

10:36 p.m. — Two sheriff’s deputies were dispatched, and Florence ambulance was instructed to stand by at a nearby park after a clerk at Johnson’s General Store in Florence reported that a woman had entered a restroom 40 minutes earlier, had locked the door, and would not respond. Before deputies or ambulance attendants could arrive, the clerk unlocked the door and found the restroom empty. The customer apparently had locked it after leaving without the clerk noticing.

SATURDAY

1:06 p.m. — Burns firefighters extinguished what apparently was a minor grass fire. Further information about the call was not recorded.

1:08 p.m. — Tampa ambulance, apparently contacted directly rather than through dispatchers, arrived in Salina to return a Salina Regional patient to his residence on Falcon Rd.

4:11 p.m. — A grass fire ignited while burning trash in the back yard of a residence in the 300 block of W. 6th St. in Lincolnville was extinguished within 10 minutes by Lincolnville firefighters.

4:52 p.m. — A 94-year-old Parkside Homes resident with low blood pressure was taken to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:27 p.m. —Hillsboro ambulance was told to stand by at 140th and Kanza Rds., after dispatchers received reports of a possibly suicidal person. A deputy sheriff canceled the call 15 minutes later.

10:47 p.m. — An apparent leak from a gas meter hit by a car in an alley between Lincoln and Cedar Sts. just north of Main St. was plugged by Marion firefighters until an Atmos Energy crew could arrive.

SUNDAY

1:36 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched for a medical alarm at a Parkside Homes apartment, but the call was canceled after dispatchers were notified that a nurse on the scene was handling the problem.

2:02 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College’s Cedar Hall dormitory at Adams and B Sts. proved to be false and was reset by Hillsboro firefighters.

6:57 p.m. — A Salem Home patient was transferred to Newton Med by Hillsboro ambulance.

MONDAY

12:18 a.m. — A four-alarm barn and grass fire on US-77 near 30th Rd. was battled for nearly four hours by firefighters from Burns, Florence, Marion, and Peabody. The barn was fully engaged, ammunition stored inside exploded, and the grass fire was prevented from spreading to other structures. Peabody ambulance stood by for more than two hours as a precaution.
