Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

AUG. 10

11:13 a.m. — A man in his 80s who reportedly had been lying on the ground in pain with low blood pressure and a slow pulse since the night before was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Medical Center from a farm on 130th Rd. near Diamond Rd. A first responder from Goessel assisted.

12:17 p.m. — Peabody firefighters briefly were alerted by a false fire alarm at Westview Manor in Peabody.

1:08 p.m. — A second false alarm sent Peabody firefighters back to Westview.

1:43 p.m. — Firefighters again were dispatched for a false alarm at Westview, which reported that its alarm system was malfunctioning and a repair crew was en route.

3:37 p.m. — A fourth false alarm was ignored after Westview telephoned firefighters and said the repair crew had arrived.

AUG. 11

5:02 p.m. — Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Marion, and Tampa firefighters spent four hours battling a fire in a hay barn on 290th Rd. near Yarrow Rd. Tampa ambulance also was dispatched as a precaution against firefighter exhaustion in nearly 100-degree heat.

THURSDAY

1:55 a.m. — A 91-year-old woman who fell earlier in the day at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:17 p.m. — A 70-year-old woman who fell and hit her head on concrete outside Wendy’s in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:33 p.m. — An 80-year-old man who was found after he fell sometime earlier at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

2:31 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was sent to HCH to help medical staff with an unstable patient. Ambulance attendants remained there for nearly an hour.

4:56 a.m. — Goessel, Hillsboro, and Peabody firefighters spent nearly four hours battling a fire in a farmhouse on 100th Rd. between K-15 and Chisholm Trail Rd. Hillsboro ambulance also was sent to the fire.

5:32 a.m. — Marion firefighters rendered safe an electrical transformer that was sparking at Lincoln and Weldon Sts. in Marion. City crews were called to make repairs.

9:16 a.m. — A 58-year-old man feeling weak and unable to eat for nearly a week was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from the 300 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro.

10:06 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance ferried an air ambulance crew from Hillsboro airport to and from HCH to pick up a patient for transfer.

10:52 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied, Marion ambulance took a male COPD patient from Parkside Homes to HCH.

7:40 p.m. — A patient in the 200 block of E. 5th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance after a medical alarm company alerted dispatchers that the patient had low blood sugar. First responders from Florence were paged but did not answer.

9:11 p.m. — A person reportedly injured in a car-deer collision on K-15 at 180th Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel firefighters and a Goessel first responder also were sent to the accident.

10:22 p.m. — An Eagle Med helicopter transferred an HCH patient to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

SATURDAY

4:08 a.m. — An electrical box on fire in the 200 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was quickly dealt with by Peabody firefighters.

7:26 p.m. — A woman found lying unconscious near the barricaded Marion Reservoir swimming beach at Pawnee and 210th Rds. was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

9:37 p.m. — A 60-year-old man reportedly having a seizure behind a storage unit at 3rd and Forest Sts. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SUNDAY

5:16 a.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Rock Regional Hospital in Derby.

11:02 a.m. — A dog walker in her 60s who hit her head on a sidewalk and felt faint and dizzy after being tripped by her dog at 6th and Locust Sts. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Peabody ambulance. The county’s emergency medical services shift supervisor also responded to the call.

11:41 a.m. — A 96-year-old woman who told a medical alarm company that she had heartburn and bloody stools was taken by Marion ambulance to Newton Med from the 200 block of E. 5th St. in Florence. The shift supervisor also responded to this call. First responders from Florence were paged but did not answer.

1:32 p.m. — A man who overheated and passed out at a farm on Bluestem Rd. about two miles north of US-50 was taken by Marion ambulance to Via Christi – St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. The EMS director and shift supervisor also responded to the call.

6:32 p.m. — A brush pile being burned in a backyard in the 400 block of S. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was quickly extinguished by Hillsboro firefighters.

MONDAY

9:09 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman possibly having a stroke at Salem Homes in Hillsboro was taken to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:51 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance occupied, Marion ambulance transported to HCH an 80-year-old man who was having trouble breathing at Parkside Homes assisted living. A first responder from Hillsboro assisted on the call.

9:53 a.m. — With both Marion and Hillsboro ambulances occupied, the county’s backup ambulance, based in Marion and staffed in part by the county’s EMS director, took a 64-year-old woman receiving chemotherapy and having trouble breathing to St. Luke from the 300 block of W. 4th St. in Florence.

2:27 p.m. — A 78-year-old man being treated for a stroke in the HCH emergency room was transferred to St. Francis by Hillsboro ambulance. On the return trip, the ambulance brought a patient back to Salem Homes.

5:26 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman having a seizure in the 300 block of W. 4th St. in Florence was taken to Newton Med by Marion ambulance. A Florence first responder assisted with the call.

5:28 p.m. — At a police officer’s request, Peabody ambulance attendants attempted to check a man with a leg injury walking down railroad tracks near Central and Maple Sts. in Peabody. The man refused to allow them to examine him and continued walking.
