Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
NOV. 23
1:57 p.m. — A woman with headache and muscle pain and known to be a COVID-19 patient was taken by Peabody ambulance from the 700 block of Walnut St. in Peabody to Newton Medical Center. Marion ambulance assisted on the call, which initially was thought to have involved a stroke.
7:15 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Salina Regional Medical Center.
NOV. 24
12:53 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was helped up by a Florence first responder and Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
9:28 a.m. — An alarm company reported that a resident of Homestead Senior Residences in Marion had fallen. The resident declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.
3:04 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Newton Med.
4:36 p.m. — Peabody firefighters were dispatched to a Harvey County traffic accident south of 70th Rd. on Indigo / East Lake Rd. Reports that they were needed to help with extrication of a victim proved unfounded, but they remained on the scene for nearly two hours.
8:10 p.m. — Burns firefighters were dispatched to a grass fire along the Kansas Turnpike in Butler County.
9:14 p.m. — A 72-year-old woman who fell out of a wheelchair at a home in the 1400 block of Denver St. in Marion was helped by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
11:08 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance shuttled an air ambulance crew from Hillsboro Airport to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, and back to Hillsboro Airport.
THURSDAY
9:53 a.m. — A 66-year-old woman suspected of suffering a stroke at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
4:37 p.m. — A driver who hit his head during a two-vehicle accident on US-50 near Pawnee Rd. east of Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital. Peabody firefighters, a lone Peabody ambulance attendant, and an emergency medical service supervisor from Marion responded to the call. Marion ambulance initially was dispatched but was told to disregard the call.
9:36 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.
FRIDAY
10:50 a.m. — A pregnant 22-year-old woman with seizures was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, from the 300 block of N. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro.
1:42 p.m. — Immediately upon returning from the previous call, Hillsboro ambulance transferred an HCH patient to Kansas Heart.
3:25 p.m. — A grass fire in a ditch at K-15 and 340th Rd. was put out within 40 minutes by Tampa firefighters. A Durham firefighter who was nearby assisted.
6:05 p.m. — Florence firefighters checked a report of smoke coming from a vehicle that hit a deer near the Cottonwood River bridge on US-50 east of Florence.
6:44 p.m. — Fence posts that rekindled after the ditch fire at K-15 and 340th Rd. were doused a second time by Tampa firefighters.
SATURDAY
10:09 a.m. — A woman who hurt her shoulder and scraped her wrist in a one-vehicle accident south of 290th Rd. on Nighthawk Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance. Tampa and Hillsboro firefighters also were dispatched to the accident. Hillsboro ambulance briefly headed that way but was told to disregard the call.
11:46 a.m. — A 34-year-old woman who was having trouble breathing and who was identified by code words as being a COVID-19 patient was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance from the 100 block of W. 3rd St. in Florence.
12:49 p.m. — Burns firefighters were briefly called for mutual aid at an unreported location outside Marion County, but the call was quickly canceled.
4:15 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman with hip and leg pain preventing her from getting out of a chair was taken by Tampa ambulance to St. Luke from the 100 block of County Rd. in Tampa.
6:36 p.m. — Fire in a camper trailer on US-77 near 350th Rd. destroyed the trailer and the truck pulling it and disrupted traffic for nearly two hours as Lost Springs firefighters worked to douse a burning metal fuel tank. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly 3½ hours.
SUNDAY
6 a.m. — A 84-year-old man who fell and may have broken a hip at Salem Home was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on a physician’s orders to Newton Med.
7:02 a.m. — A 95-year-old man who fell in the 600 block of S. Freeborn St. and lost consciousness — and also was indicated by a dispatcher’s code words to be a COVID-19 patient — was found dead by Marion ambulance attendants.
12:53 p.m. — A 59-year-old man feeling ill at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
1:01 p.m. — A 92-year-old woman with abdominal pain was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH from Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.
5:14 p.m. — A female HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Newton Med.
5:42 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by helicopter ambulance to Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park.
11:06 p.m. — A medical alarm for an unspecified medical emergency at a Homestead Senior Residences apartment led to police being called to assist in entry to the apartment and the purported patient declining to be taken to a hospital.
MONDAY
4:31 p.m. — Durham and Tampa firefighters spent seven hours battling a fire that engulfed 60 bales of hay near 290th and Eagle Rds.
7:49 p.m. — A 59-year-old woman with gastrointestinal issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Newton Med.
8:23 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters disconnected natural gas service and evacuated a home in the 400 block of S. Washington St. after a carbon monoxide alarm correctly detected serious levels of deadly gas in a home, the heating system of which had worked on the day before.
