Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 8

1:13 p.m. — A 69-year-old man with cardiac issues was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to its station at 4:35 p.m.

3:45 p.m. — Delayed by nine minutes until Marion ambulance was back in the county, the county’s backup ambulance, based in Hillsboro, transferred a 43-year-old man with gastrointestinal issues from Hillsboro Community Hospital to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to its station at 6:15 p.m.

7:02 p.m. — A 75-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 500 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched, but that call was canceled after Peabody ambulance assessed the patient.

NOV. 9

12:59 a.m. — Marion ambulance transferred an 84-year-old man from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to its station at 3:48 a.m.

3:11 a.m. — After waiting an unreported amount of time until Marion ambulance was back in the county, the backup ambulance was dispatched to transfer a second patient from St. Luke to Wesley Woodlawn. It returned to its station at 6:11 a.m.

11 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters monitored minor leakage after a vehicle struck a natural gas line behind Mennonite Brethren Foundation headquarters in Hillsboro. Firefighters said an object that ruptured the line effectively plugged it until gas company employees could repair the damage.

3:41 p.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to transfer an 88-year-old man with cardiac issues from St. Luke to NMC Health, Newton. The ambulance was in Florence for service at the time and did not head to St. Luke until 4:45 p.m. It started back to the county atl 6:06 p.m.

THURSDAY

7:22 a.m. — A report of a grass fire in a field on 130th Rd. between Goldenrod and Holly Rds. was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to be a false alarm.

9:41 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters had to search for half an hour before determining that a fire alarm reported by an alarm company for a vague location at Tabor College was a malfunction at Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.

3:21 p.m. — A 67-year-old man suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the 200 block of N. Plum St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke by the backup ambulance from Hillsboro. A lone emergency medical technician aboard Peabody ambulance served as a first responder.

FRIDAY

2:02 a.m. — Marion ambulance was dispatched to St. Luke for more than 3½ hours to provide equipment and assist with some form of bypass.

11:22 a.m. — A 36-year-old male patient was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

1:57 p.m. — A woman who allegedly was choked during a domestic quarrel in the 200 block of E. Division St. in Peabody declined to ask for an ambulance, but a sheriff’s deputy asked that Peabody ambulance stand by and then check the woman anyway. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:06 p.m. — As soon as Marion ambulance returned from Wichita, it was dispatched to transfer a 53-year-old woman with gastrointestinal issues from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:34 p.m.

10:47 p.m. — A 61-year-old man who fell at a residence in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion and could not reach his oxygen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

SATURDAY

7:39 p.m. — A 79-year-old man with neurological issues was transferred by the backup ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:25 p.m.

9:33 p.m. — A 43-year-old man with chest pains, labored breathing, and a history of heart attacks was taken by Marion ambulance to HCH from the 200 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro. The address initially was misreported as being on E. Grand Ave. Hillsboro firefighters assisted as first responders.

SUNDAY

1:48 a.m. — A 43-year-old woman with rapid breathing and heaviness in her chest declined to be transported by the backup ambulance from the 500 block of Lawrence St. in Durham. First responders from Durham were paged but did not answer. Tampa ambulance was dispatched instead, but that call was canceled after the backup ambulance crew evaluated the patient.

12:07 p.m. — A 90-year-old man who fell and hit his head at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by the backup ambulance.

9:08 p.m. — A 51-year-old woman with chest pain and a history of heart attack was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke from the 100 block of W. 6th St. in Florence. Peabody ambulance and Florence first responders were paged but did not answer. The backup ambulance responded instead. Marion ambulance arrived at 9:21 p.m.; the backup ambulance, at 9:28 p.m.

9:16 p.m. — Dispatchers informed the backup ambulance crew that a transfer from Peabody Health and Rehab was pending once the ambulance completed its call to Florence. The ambulance arrived in Peabody at 9:57 p.m., but the patient declined to be taken to a hospital. The ambulance was back at its station at 10:30 p.m.

MONDAY

4:37 a.m. — A 69-year-old woman who fell down a flight of stairs the day before and became unable to move her leg was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance from the 200 block of E. Welch St. in Marion.

7:03 p.m. — A 58-year-old male cancer patient who fell at a residence in the 200 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

11:11 p.m. — A 58-year-old man with sepsis was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:55 p.m.
