Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MARCH 14

11:06 a.m. — An 82-year-old man with an unspecified medical condition was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:06 p.m.

3:25 p.m. — A 73-year-old woman who fell and may have broken her hip in the 600 block of W. 3rd St. in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Peabody ambulance. The county’s ambulance director and Hillsboro ambulance also responded.

3:55 p.m. — A smoky grass fire at 190th and Upland Rds. near Marion Municipal Airport was extinguished within half an hour by Marion firefighters. Lincolnville and Florence firefighters also were called but later were told to disregard the call. Sheriff’s officers help direct traffic through the smoke.

4:01 p.m. — A grass fire at the northernmost campsite at Marion Reservoir’s Hillsboro Cove was extinguished within half an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

4:16 p.m. — A grass fire in Harvey County near Jade Rd. and US-50 was extinguished within 1½ hours by Peabody firefighters.

4:55 p.m. — En route back from Newton, Peabody ambulance was dispatched to Westview Manor in Peabody to transfer a patient on a physician’s orders to NMC Health.

MARCH 15

7:58 a.m. — A fence post smoldering after the grass fire a day earlier at 190th and Upland Rds. was extinguished in less than 15 minutes by Marion firefighters.

THURSDAY

6:58 a.m. — Trees on fire along US-50 between Jade Rd. and East Lake Rd. were extinguished within an hour by Peabody firefighters.

10:32 p.m. — An increasingly confused 81-year-old woman was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:03 a.m.

FRIDAY

6:29 a.m. — A 28-year-old woman experiencing genital pain at a home in the 600 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody opted to go to a hospital by private vehicle instead of Peabody ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched, but that call was quickly canceled.

9:48 a.m. — A fire extinguisher was used to extinguish a truck fire at Epps Service in Hillsboro before Hillsboro firefighters arrived.

11:30 a.m. — An elderly hospice patient unable to arise after he sat on a floor in a farmhouse near 90th and Kanza Rds. was helped up by Peabody ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

2:08 p.m. — A 10-year-old boy who tripped and hit his head while walking in an alley across from Casey’s General Store in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

3 p.m. — An unresponsive 91-year-old woman was transferred from Parkside Homes, Hillsboro, to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance initially responded as well but was called off.

7:25 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with a cardiac condition was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:28 p.m.

8:23 p.m. — With Marion ambulance still en route to Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance and a sheriff’s deputy were dispatched for a reportedly difficult-to-control 71-year-old man who was thought to have suffered a stroke at a residence in the 300 block of Burbridge St. in Marion. After some confusion over the address, the deputy and ambulance arrived 19 minutes after the initial call. The ambulance took the man to St. Luke.

11:54 p.m. — Firefighters from Florence, Marion, and Peabody and Marion ambulance were dispatched to a chimney fire at a residence in the 100 block of W. 7th St. in Florence. Within nine minutes, Marion and Peabody firefighters were told to disregard the call. Florence firefighters remain until 12:38 a.m.

SATURDAY

6 p.m. — A 21-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a residence in the 300 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

SUNDAY

8:08 a.m. — An 81-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 100 block of N. Wilson St. in Hillsboro two days after having neck surgery was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:16 p.m. — Two people whose three-wheeler collided with a car at Roosevelt and Denver Sts. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched, but the call was canceled.

3:49 p.m. — A 56-year-old man initially reported to be drifting in and out of consciousness after being hit in the chest by a vehicle that rolled off service ramps he was underneath and ran over one of his arms in the 100 block of W. 4th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A Burns firefighter on the scene provided initial aid. Hillsboro ambulance also responded but was called off.

4:45 p.m. — Marion ambulance responded to a medical alarm accidentally activated in the 100 block of S. Coble St. in Marion.

6:24 p.m. — A 67-year-old man having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 170th and Eagle Rds. was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A Hillsboro first responder and Marion ambulance also answered the call. Hillsboro ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:21 p.m.

9:06 p.m. — A man reportedly not breathing outside an apartment at Oakwood Manor in Hillsboro received cardiopulmonary resuscitation from those on the scene and later from Hillsboro firefighters until Hillsboro ambulance took him to HCH. Marion ambulance and Hillsboro police also responded to the call. Both ambulance crews assisted at the hospital, Hillsboro ambulance remaining there until 10:28 p.m.

MONDAY

12:47 a.m. — A 60-year-old man with respiratory distress was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to St. Francis. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 3:23 p.m.

8:08 a.m. — A 71-year-old woman coughing and in pain at a residence in the 1500 block of Victory Lane in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

1:11 p.m. — A 68-year-old woman having chest pains was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance on her physician’s orders from Salem Home, Hillsboro, to St. Luke.

3:02 p.m. — A reported natural gas leak inside a residence in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. in Marion could not be located by Marion firefighters but was found by an Atmos Energy worker. Marion ambulance also responded as a precaution.

5:01 p.m. — An EagleMed helicopter ambulance transferred a St. Luke patient to Wesley.
