Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

APRIL 11

11:43 a.m. — A 52-year-old woman with chest pains was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:51 p.m.

2:04 p.m. — A Marion police officer went to the Marion ambulance station to ask ambulance attendants to evaluate a psychologically disturbed person at a rental home in 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion. The person was taken to St. Luke. The county ambulance director also responded along with a Marion firefighter.

2:07 p.m. — A person who showed up with an elevated heart rate at the N. Vine St. home of a Peabody emergency medical technician was taken by Peabody ambulance to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Peabody at 3:19 p.m.

2:59 p.m. — A rekindled grass fire near a hedge row a quarter of a mile east of 280th Rd. and US-77 was battled for half an hour by Lincolnville firefighters.

6:32 p.m. — Trees on fire a quarter of a mile west of 170th and Falcon Rd. after a controlled burn the day before were extinguished within two hours by Hillsboro firefighters.

10:18 p.m. — A 59-year-old woman with an abnormal electrocardiogram reading was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:17 a.m.

APRIL 12

No ambulance or fire calls monitored.

THURSDAY

2:48 p.m. — A 42-year-old woman needing a neurological examination was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 6:01 p.m.

3:50 p.m. — A 55-year-old woman who bent over and hurt her back at a residence in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Susan B. Allen Hospital, El Dorado. Florence first responders were paged but did not reply. A lone EMT aboard Peabody ambulance was dispatched as a first responder.

7:31 p.m. — Immediately upon its return from El Dorado, Hillsboro ambulance reported to Hillsboro Community Hospital to transfer a patient to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. The transfer had been delayed at least two hours until the ambulance returned. The ambulance was back in its station at 10:23 p.m.

FRIDAY

7:23 a.m. — En route to Hillsboro for an annual inspection, Peabody ambulance was diverted to a call about 29-year-old woman with pelvic pain at a residence in the 200 block of W. Division St. in Peabody. Hillsboro ambulance also responded and transported the patient to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:27 p.m.

8:53 a.m. — With Hillsboro ambulance still in Newton, a 95-year-old man who fell and hurt his shoulder at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance.

12:11 p.m. — An 18-year-old woman with sepsis was transferred by the Hillsboro ambulance crew, using the county’s backup ambulance, from HCH to NMC Health.

4:54 p.m. — Fire that spread from Marion’s tree dump to a ditch was extinguished within an hour by Marion firefighters.

6:14 p.m. — A person reportedly injured in an accident in an alley in the 400 block of N. Ash St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:29 p.m. — A small grass fire east of 290th and Clover Rds. was extinguished within half an hour by Lincolnville firefighters.

10:31 p.m. — Goessel firefighters spent 1½ hours helping Moundridge firefighters battle a barn fire near 27th Ave. and Arrowhead Rd. in McPherson County.

SATURDAY

3:40 p.m. — A tree reportedly on fire east of 260th and Jade Rds., nine days after a controlled burn in the area, could not be located by Hillsboro firefighters.

5:50 p.m. — A 76-year-old man who fell at a home on Schlotthauer Dr. at Eastshore declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. Hillsboro ambulance also responded to the call.

11:10 p.m. — A 30-year-old woman having seizures at a rental home in the 300 block of Locust St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Ambulance attendants initially asked for help from law enforcement officers and, after being told none were immediately available, Hillsboro ambulance, but the request later was canceled.

11:32 p.m. — An uninjured 68-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Terrace Apartments was helped up by Peabody ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

No ambulance or fire calls monitored.

MONDAY

10:11 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home on 275th St. in Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. The county’s ambulance director also responded to the call.

10:17 a.m. — With Marion ambulance heading to Pilsen, Hillsboro ambulance was assigned to check on an automated medical alert at an 84-year-old woman’s apartment at Homestead Senior Residences in Marion. It proved to be a false alarm.

5:01 p.m. — The seizure-suffering 30-year-old woman from Saturday night was again taken by Marion ambulance from the 300 block of Locust St. in Marion to St. Luke. The county’s ambulance director also responded.

5:20 p.m. — A man with a sore chest after a one-car accident on US-56 and its eastern junction with K-15 was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Ambulance attendants asked for Hillsboro firefighters to help them get a stretcher through a fence and ditch.

11:26 p.m. — A young woman who overdosed with seven Excederin tablets at a rental home on A Rd. in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not reply.
