Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

SEPT. 26

12:05 a.m. — An 88-year-old man needing surgery was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke Hospital, Marion, to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:56 p.m.

5:48 a.m. — An 81-year-old man complaining of back pain and difficulty breathing at a farmhouse on Pawnee Rd. near Marion dam was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9 a.m. — Fire engulfing a vehicle on US-56/77 north of 320th Rd. was quickly contained by three firefighters, the only ones initially responding to requests for the Lost Springs and Lincolnville fire departments.

12:28 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman who fell and hurt her ribs in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:19 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman needing surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:15 p.m.

SEPT. 27

2:19 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with diabetic issues in the 200 block of N. Pine St. in Peabody was examined by a lone emergency medical technician aboard Peabody ambulance and taken by Marion ambulance to NMC Health.

4:11 p.m. — A person who suffered a head laceration in a two-vehicle accident at Pawnee and 50th Rd. was checked by Marion ambulance attendants as they returned from Newton. The patient declined to be taken to a hospital. Peabody and Hillsboro ambulances, originally dispatched, were called off.

11:54 p.m. — A 94-year-old woman who fell at Marion Assisted Living declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

THURSDAY

11:06 a.m. — Fire in a row of hay bales north of 170th Rd. between Eagle and Falcon Rds. was extinguished within two hours by Hillsboro firefighters after some initial difficulty locating it.

7:19 p.m. — A patient checked by Hillsboro ambulance during a middle school football game at Joel Wiens Stadium declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:29 p.m. — A 92-year-old man who fell at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

FRIDAY

2:23 p.m. — A person with a cut and possibly a broken ankle after a car-combine collision on 360th Rd. between Nighthawk and Old Mill Rds. was taken to by Salina Regional Medical Center by Marion ambulance. A second person declined to be taken to a hospital. Ramona firefighters and an EMT from Tampa ambulance also responded. Marion ambulance returned to Marion at 6:02 p.m.

4:37 p.m. — A 69-year-old woman who fell at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was helped up by Peabody ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:29 p.m. — An 80-year-old woman who fell and skinned her knee at a home in the 100 block of W. Commercial St. in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were pages but did not answer.

SATURDAY

Noon — An elderly woman who a caller thought might have suffered a stroke at the Old Settlers Day picnic in Marion’s Central Park declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

4:39 p.m. — A 60-year-old man who suffered a seizure while riding in a motorcycle convoy on K-15 south of US-56 was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:29 p.m. — Fire in a hay field at Goldenrod and 220th Rds. was extinguished within half an hour by Hillsboro firefighters.

7:26 p.m. — A 66-year-old man with a broken neck was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:13 p.m.

SUNDAY

No ambulance or fire dispatches were recorded.

MONDAY

12:19 p.m. — What initially was reported to Peabody firefighters as smoke from a grass fire along Indigo Rd. between 110th and 120th Rd. later was thought to be dust from a vehicle or, after investigation by Hillsboro and Goessel firefighters, a controlled burn in McPherson County.

1:32 p.m. — Marion ambulance took a patient to St. Luke after being dispatched to investigate a medical alarm of an unspecified nature at Hilltop Manor apartments in Marion.
