Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

NOV. 14

9:06 a.m. — A 38-year-old man complaining of pain at an apartment in the 300 block of S. Washington St. in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:07 p.m. — A 67-year-old man with abdominal pain and a history of aortic aneurism was taken by Tampa ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, from a residence in the 300 block of Lincoln St. in Tampa. Hillsboro ambulance also was dispatched but was told to disregard the call before it arrived.

NOV. 15

2:36 a.m. — The patient brought in by Tampa ambulance, now diagnosed as having a bowel obstruction, was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 4:18 a.m.

4:07 a.m. — An 87-year-old woman with abdominal pain at Salem Home, Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:26 a.m. — An HCH patient was transferred to Salem Home by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:20 p.m. — A 33-year-old woman with a fluttering heartbeat drove to the Marion ambulance station to be checked by medics before deciding to drive to a hospital on her own.

THURSDAY

10:13 a.m. — A 78-year-old woman with chest pains at a residence on Random Rd. at Marion County Park and Lake declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

2:06 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman with arm pain and a sore throat at Oakwood Manor apartments in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

8:52 p.m. — Hillsboro ambulance was told to stand by at 190th and Kanza Rds. after a passing motorist discovered a running motorcycle crashed in a ditch. Despite the motorist’s admonitions, the apparently intoxicated, possibly injured cyclist got back on his motorcycle and drove off into a farm field and then north on Kanza Rd. Ambulance attendants, the undersheriff, and a Hillsboro police officer searched in vain for the cyclist for nearly an hour.

FRIDAY

1:19 a.m. — Hillsboro firefighters determined that an automated alert from a Tabor College apartment building in the 200 block of S. Madison St. in Hillsboro was a false alarm.

7:05 a.m. — An 89-year-old man who suddenly couldn’t move his legs at a farmhouse near 110th and Mustang Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:48 a.m. — An 80-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 100 block of W. Commercial St. in Goessel was helped up by Goessel fire responders and Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

11:00 a.m. — A 21-year-old male suffering convulsions and bleeding from his head at Tabor College’s activity center was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

5:37 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters shut off natural gas to a house in the 500 block of E. 1st St. in Hillsboro after an odor indicating a leak in a service line was reported. Atmos Energy was contacted to repair or replace the line.

6:55 p.m. — An HCH patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

SATURDAY

6:01 a.m. — A natural gas odor reported at 2nd and Walnut Sts. in Peabody could not be located by Peabody firefighters.

8:55 a.m. — Hillsboro ambulance responded to a call, the nature of which was obscured by other transmissions. The patient or patients declined to be taken to a hospital.

SUNDAY

11:49 a.m. — An unconscious 87-year-old woman who may have suffered a stroke at a home in the 100 block of E. Division St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Peabody ambulance also was paged but did not answer. Marion ambulance was dispatched to help.

5:18 p.m. — A 62-year-old man who fell at a residence in the 300 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion and was having trouble with his oxygen supply because of an area-wide power failure was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

MONDAY

12:06 a.m. — A 77-year-old man who fell out of bed inside a locked duplex on Victory Ln. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance. A sheriff’s deputy helped ambulance attendants get past the locked door.

6:29 a.m. — A truck fire at Columbus and 4th St. in Tampa was extinguished before Tampa firefighters arrived.

11:21 a.m. — A woman in her 70s who reportedly fell at a home in the 500 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion was taken to HCH by Marion ambulance. Ambulance attendants requested that a police officer also be dispatched.

3:32 p.m. — A 75-year-old man shaking uncontrollably at Indian Guide Terrace apartments in Peabody was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. A lone technician aboard Peabody ambulance provided initial care. Hillsboro ambulance returned to its station at 6:07 p.m.

3:49 p.m. — A 51-year-old inmate who may have suffered a seizure at Marion County Jail was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
