Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JAN. 30

5:24 a.m. — A 96-year-old woman, unresponsive for a few minutes at Marion Assisted Living, was determined by Marion ambulance to have been asleep and was not taken to a hospital.

5:33 a.m. — Lincolnville firefighters blocked traffic around a partially downed power line near 3rd and Lombard Sts. in Lincolnville.

7 p.m. — A lethargic 73-year-old man with an apparently obstructed bowel and trouble breathing at Westview Manor in Peabody was taken to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:02 p.m.

8:16 p.m. — An 82-year-old man who may have suffered a stroke at a home in the 600 block of N. Locust St. in Peabody was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

JAN. 31

8:52 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a do-not-resuscitate directive fell and was not breathing at Bethesda Home in Goessel. She was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m. by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. Even though the death occurred at a nursing home, ambulance attendants asked for a coroner to be assigned.

10:24 p.m. — A 34-year-old man with a high heart rate after receiving a pacemaker declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance from a house in the 400 block of N. Olive St. in Peabody. Peabody ambulance was paged but did not answer. Peabody police did instead.

THURSDAY

3:04 a.m. — A 45-year-old man needing surgery was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:40 a.m.

8:25 a.m. — A 62-year-old woman initially reported to be unconscious and not breathing in a white minivan at US-56 and K-15/Holly Rd. regained consciousness and was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH. Marion ambulance and Hillsboro firefighters and first responders also were dispatched.

2:51 p.m. — Apparently contacted directly rather than by dispatchers, Marion ambulance took a patient to St. Luke from the 800 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion.

6:30 p.m. — A 21-year-old woman with an elevated heart rate at a duplex in the 100 block of N. Jefferson St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

6:56 p.m. — A septic 70-year-old women was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

FRIDAY

2:59 p.m. — A 21-year-old woman vomiting and feeling ill after donating blood at Shari Flaming Center for the Arts at Tabor College was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

9:15 p.m. — A 36-year-old man with abdominal pain in the 400 block of S. Floral Dr. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:54 p.m. — An 81-year-old woman with a broken arm and a broken wrist was transferred from HCH to Wesley by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 1:21 a.m.

SATURDAY

2:49 a.m. — A 79-year-old woman with stroke-like symptoms was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Marion at 5:36 a.m. 11:32 a.m. — A 54-year-old woman who was dizzy, fell out of a chair, and hit her head at a residence in the 700 block of Hudson St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

12:07 p.m. — An unresponsive but breathing man in his late 60s in the 200 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

1:37 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

3:29 p.m. — A 72-year-old man with sepsis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:27 p.m.

9:05 p.m. — A 35-year-old woman who hurt her ankle after falling down three slippery stairs at a mobile home in the 600 block of E. Marion St. in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

10:29 p.m. — An uninjured 80-year-old woman who fell at a residence in the 100 block of W. Commercial St. in Goessel was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital. Goessel first responders were paged but did not answer.

SUNDAY

9:15 a.m. — A weak and ill 61-year-old man at a farmhouse near 160th and Turkey Creek Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

12:31 p.m. — An uninjured 74-year-old man who fell at a residence in the 600 block of W. 3rd St. in Peabody was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

6:54 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were called for an Amazon delivery vehicle overheating after being stuck in mud on 110th Rd. east of K-15. They were unable to reach the vehicle, which appeared not to be in danger, but waited with the driver until a ride could arrive.

MONDAY

7:49 a.m. — A 63-year-old man was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 10:01 a.m.

9:19 a.m. — A woman reported to be slumped over in a vehicle stopped on Sunflower Rd. just north of US-50 was determined by the sheriff, who reached the scene before the county ambulance director and Hillsboro ambulance, to have been resting.

11:55 a.m. — After nearly an hour of searching, Florence, Peabody, and Marion firefighters and sheriff’s deputies were unable to locate a barn that reportedly was on fire near US-50 and Clover Rd.

1:18 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was taken home by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to its station at 2:15 p.m. No additional information was provided in transmissions.

6:08 p.m. — Delayed by a train, Marion ambulance arrived 38 minutes after an initial call for a one-vehicle accident on Timber Rd. north of 60th Rd. and ended up taking one patient to St. Luke. Peabody firefighters also responded to the accident.

6:25 p.m. — A 90-year-old woman who fell at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

7:10 p.m. — A junior high school girl who dislocated a joint during a wrestling tournament at Hillsboro Junior-Senior High School was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9 p.m.

10:11 p.m. — Marion and Hillsboro ambulance attendants and Marion firefighters administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a man not breathing and turning blue at a rental home in the 200 block of S. Freeborn St. in Marion, but he was pronounced dead at 10:52 p.m. Off-duty Marion police were summoned so deputies and ambulance attendants could be available for other calls. After some difficulty locating a coroner, one arrived at 11:28 p.m.

11:00 p.m. — A woman who overdosed on medication at a farmhouse near 240th and Diamond Rds. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
