Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

APRIL 30

2:58 p.m. — A 96-year-old woman with hip pain after a fall the night before at Marion Assisted Living was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

4:42 p.m. — A 2-year-old boy who fell into a pool in the 400 block of N. Main St. in Tampa was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Tampa ambulance. Marion ambulance also was dispatched, but attendants were told to stand down before they arrived.

5:23 p.m. — Marion ambulance briefly was called to the county jail for a woman having a seizure, but the dispatch was canceled two minutes later.

6:06 p.m. — The 2-year-old near-drowning victim brought in earlier was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Children’s Mercy at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:49 p.m.

MAY 1

9:38 a.m. — An uninjured 69-year-old man, still on the floor after falling 4½ hours earlier at a home in the 100 block of S. Wilson St. in Hillsboro, was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants and firefighters. He declined to be taken to a hospital.

10:02 a.m. — A 79-year-old man who fell out of a lift chair at a home in the 600 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody was helped up by a Peabody ambulance attendant and police officer. He declined to be taken to a hospital. Marion ambulance attendants and Peabody firefighters briefly were dispatched but told to stand down.

7:29 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters trained for more than an hour in the 600 block of E. D St. in Hillsboro.

THURSDAY

8:53 a.m. — An initially unresponsive 31-year-old woman having seizures at a home in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance, which spent nearly an hour at the scene.

4:56 p.m. — An epileptic 31-year-old woman, possibly the same patient from the previous call, was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:15 p.m.

FRIDAY

9:03 a.m. — An uninjured 38-year-old woman who fell in her front yard on Random Rd. at Marion County Park and Lake was helped up by Marion ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.

1:47 p.m. — Goessel firefighters were dispatched to investigate smoke and odor innocently coming from a newly activated heater in a house near 28th Ave. and Cheyenne Rd. in McPherson County. Firefighters were dispatched via cell phone only. A radio dispatch from McPherson County contained only tones without additional information. Marion County dispatchers obtained and relayed the information.

SATURDAY

9:13 a.m. — An 82-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a house in Pilsen was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9:32 a.m. — A 72-year-old woman not completely alert at a home in the 300 block of S. Floral Dr. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance, which responded from a Safe Kids event at the county fairgrounds.

10:21 a.m. — A 44-year-old woman with diabetic issues in the 200 block of S. Schmidt Ln. in Lehigh was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:59 p.m. — An 82-year-old woman with cardiac issues, possibly the same patient from the call at 9:13 a.m., was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:28 p.m.

SUNDAY

2:39 p.m. — An unconscious 49-year-old woman suffering a seizure in a third-floor kitchen at the Historic Elgin Hotel in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. Marion firefighters helped lift the woman.

4:10 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters initially were sent to US-56 and Diamond Rd. for what was thought to be a possible grass fire but what Lehigh firefighters determined was a large, controlled burn.

MONDAY

7:59 a.m. — A report of trash on fire at Division and Sycamore Sts. in Peabody was dealt with in less than 15 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

8:50 a.m. — An 80-year-old man having trouble breathing at Parkside Homes was transferred to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center, by Hillsboro ambulance. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 10:43 a.m.

2:31 p.m. — A 12-year-old boy who suffered a seizure at Marion Elementary School was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

6:19 p.m. — An 84-year-old man who fell two hours earlier in the 300 block of S. Grant St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

7:51 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. in Marion was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance.

9:49 p.m. — Still on its way back from Newton, Marion ambulance was sent to St. Luke to transfer at cardiac patient to Kansas Heart Hospital, Andover. The ambulance returned to Marion at 1:08 a.m.
