Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

JULY 2

5:32 a.m. — A driver with a shard of glass in his hand after a car-deer accident near US-56 and Nighthawk Rd. declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:53 p.m. — An 87-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a home in the 400 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Marion ambulance.

11:05 p.m. — Fire in a home in the 300 block of N. Freeborn St. was extinguished before Marion firefighters arrived to check for hot spots. Marion ambulance also was dispatched as a precaution.

JULY 3

5:19 a.m. — A 77-year-old woman vomiting at Peabody Health and Rehab was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 7:43 p.m.

5:55 p.m. — A 65-year-old man receiving blood thinners was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 8:57 p.m.

THURSDAY

9:19 a.m. — Marion ambulance was sent to stand by at a nearby location and then told to stand down after a sheriff’s deputy investigated a report of a suspicious and unresponsive person in the back of a vehicle parked near Flying Eagle Truck Stop in Florence. The person appeared to be a young out-of-state driver napping.

1:20 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters shut off natural gas to a meter struck by a vehicle in an alley in the 600 block of S. Ash St. in Hillsboro.

FRIDAY

12:31 a.m. — Boxes of fireworks burning in the street in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion were extinguished by a Marion police officer before Marion firefighters arrived.

12:55 p.m. — Fireworks burning in the street in the 200 block of S. Main St. in Hillsboro were extinguished within 15 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

5:38 a.m. — A woman complaining of head and neck pain and hearing loss after driving into a parked car in the 300 block of S. Roosevelt St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

5:41 a.m. — A 2-year-old patient was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from Hillsboro Community Hospital to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 8:36 a.m.

6:37 a.m. — Marion firefighters apparently found no fire in checking a report of smoke coming from a campground outhouse at Marion County Park and Lake.

5:40 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred to Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. The ambulance returned to Marion at 9:21 p.m.

SATURDAY

3:09 a.m. — A 37-year-old man unable to feel his legs at a rental home in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

10:04 a.m. — An 86-year-old man who became ill the night before at Parkside Homes nursing home in Hillsboro was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance.

4:53 p.m. — A St. Luke patient was transferred by Marion ambulance to NMC Health for a surgical consultation. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:50 p.m., stopping first in Hillsboro for supplies.

SUNDAY

6:19 a.m. — A 2½-year-old boy having trouble breathing at a rental home in the 100 block of S. Floral Dr. in Hillsboro was examined by Hillsboro ambulance attendants but not taken to a hospital.

7:34 a.m. — A 74-year-old woman with abnormally high blood pressure at a home in the 300 block of E. 7th St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

12:37 p.m. — A 70-year-old man who thinks he broke ribs in a fall a few days earlier was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to NMC Health from a residence in the 200 block of N. Elm St. in Peabody. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:04 p.m.

5:23 p.m. — Fire in wheat stubble near 40th and Timber Rds. was extinguished within 30 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

7:08 p.m. — A 32-year-old man, dizzy and with low blood pressure at a farm near 210th and Remington Rds. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

9:32 p.m. — A 57-year-old woman needing help getting up in the bathroom of a rental home in the 200 block of E. 2nd St. in Peabody declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

10:26 p.m. — Peabody firefighters briefly were alerted to a backyard fire in the 600 block of N. Walnut St. in Peabody but were told to stand down after the fire was discovered to be a controlled burn in a fire pit.

11:46 p.m. — In a call to a location garbled on the newspaper’s recording equipment, Marion ambulance planned to take to NMC Health a 92-year-old woman experiencing cardiac issues but changed and took her on an emergency basis to HCH.

MONDAY

3:51 a.m. — A 68-year-old man, dizzy and with blurred vision after falling at Parkside Homes nursing home in Hillsboro, was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.

11:39 a.m. — A 31-year-old woman with an unspecified medical condition was transferred by Marion ambulance from Westview Manor to Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita. A sheriff’s deputy accompanied the ambulance to provide security, and an additional attendant was sent from the Hillsboro station to help with the transfer. A Peabody police officer also went to Westview at the time. The ambulance arrived at St. Joseph at 1:25 p.m. and headed back to Marion at 2:04 p.m. At 2:44 p.m., the deputy reported seeing an injury accident at 12th St. and Spencer Rd., a quarter of a mile east of I-35 in northwest Newton. Ambulance attendants rendered aid pending arrival of a Newton ambulance at 3 p.m. Marion ambulance and the deputy returned to Marion at 4:43 p.m. after dropping of the extra Hillsboro attendant at 3:50 p.m.

2:03 p.m. — With Marion ambulance in Wichita, Hillsboro ambulance was dispatched to outside a courtroom at Marion County Courthouse for a 30-year-old man having an anxiety attack. However, the call — to which the county ambulance director also responded — was canceled before the ambulance arrived.
