Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:
JULY 30
9:21 a.m. — A 93-year-old woman complaining of blurred vision after falling and hitting her head two hours earlier at Parkside Homes nursing home in Hillsboro was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.
12:49 p.m. — An 86-year-old man unable to walk at a farm near 310th and Yarrow Rds. was taken to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, by Tampa ambulance. Two Lincolnville first responders evaluated the patient before the ambulance arrived.
1:47 p.m. — An elderly man who fainted at a home in the 100 block of S. Date St. in Hillsboro after being released from HCH earlier in the day was taken back there by Hillsboro ambulance.
1:50 p.m. — An unresponsive man with a heart condition who fainted at a home in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. in Hillsboro was evaluated by Hillsboro first responders and Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.
3:54 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman having trouble breathing at a farmhouse near 130th and Sunflower Rds. opted to be taken to a hospital by private vehicle instead of Marion ambulance after the ambulance was dispatched to evaluate her.
9:07 p.m. — A 15-year-old girl who overdosed was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. The ambulance returned to Marion at 12:30 a.m.
JULY 31
4:56 a.m. — A 17-year-old boy with abdominal pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 6:59 a.m.
11:52 a.m. — A 58-year-old woman who thought her knee and hip were out of joint at a home in the 200 block of E. 7th St. in Florence was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
2:05 p.m. — A woman who hurt her hand in a traffic accident at US-56 and K-256/Remington Rd. was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.
8:08 p.m. — Wind estimated at 60 to 70 mph downed a power line in Tampa.
9:05 p.m. — A 16-year-old boy who may have overdosed while home alone in the 200 block of S. Kennedy St. in Hillsboro declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor and Hillsboro police also responded.
9:46 p.m. — Power failed for about 15 minutes in most of Peabody.
THURSDAY
10:40 a.m. — An unconscious 49-year-old woman who suffered a series of seizures and fell downstairs at a home on Eastmoor Dr. in Marion was taken to St. Luke on an emergency basis by Marion ambulance.
9:49 p.m. — Lincolnville, Lost Springs, Marion, and Tampa firefighters and Tampa ambulance spent more than an hour investigating smoke at AgriTrails co-operative in Lincolnville. The unusual smoke was found to have come from a controlled burn in a barrel.
FRIDAY
1:31 p.m. — A 4-year-old unconscious after having a seizure in a car on US-56/77 near 230th Rd. was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance. An ambulance supervisor aboard a backup ambulance initially responded as well but was told to stand down before he arrived.
2:36 p.m. — A person injured in a two-vehicle accident at US-56 and K-15/Holly Rd. was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance. Hillsboro firefighters provided traffic control. Marion ambulance briefly was dispatched, and Tampa ambulance briefly was told to stand by at Hillsboro, but both those dispatches were canceled.
5:10 p.m. — A 68-year-old man not feeling well at Parkside Homes nursing home in Hillsboro was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
5:31 p.m. — Marion firefighters spent 45 minutes dealing with a controlled burn that got into underground fiber optic cables near US-56 and Timber Rd. Firefighters asked for a sheriff’s deputy to investigate.
7:24 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters quickly extinguished a fire in a five-gallon gasoline can in the middle of an alley off A St. between Lincoln and Jefferson Sts. in Hillsboro.
9:51 p.m. — A 68-year-old man with sepsis was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to NMC Health, formerly Newton Medical Center.
SATURDAY
3:45 a.m. — Marion firefighters were asked to check a farmhouse near 190th and Remington Rds. after residents extinguished a fire there. Firefighters spent nearly an hour checking and ventilating the house.
7:48 a.m. — A 73-year-old diabetic not feeling well at a Victory Ln. duplex in Marion was checked by Marion ambulance attendants but declined to be taken to a hospital.
11:47 a.m. — A 65-year-old woman with chest pains at a home in the 400 block of E. Santa Fe St. in Marion declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance despite being evaluated as being in a potentially life-threatening condition.
7:16 p.m. — An 82-year-old man was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 9:37 p.m.
SUNDAY
10:13 a.m. — Marion ambulance attempted to rendezvous with a sport utility vehicle rushing from south of Marion to St. Luke an elderly woman suffering an allergic reaction to a wasp bite. The ambulance and SUV reached the hospital at about the same time.
11:53 p.m. — An unresponsive 50-year-old man who passed out at a shop on Upland Rd. near Marion County Lake was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
2:18 p.m. — A 64-year-old woman with a bowel obstruction was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health. The ambulance returned to Hillsboro at 4:17 p.m.
5:48 p.m. — A 63-year-old woman with chest pain was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to NMC Health. The ambulance returned to Marion at 7:58 p.m.
6:05 p.m. — An uninjured 93-year-old woman who fell at a house in the 300 block of W. 11 St. in Florence was helped up by Hillsboro ambulance attendants. She declined to be taken to a hospital.
8:51 p.m. — A 60-year-old woman with a bowel obstruction was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Salina Regional Medical Center. The ambulance returned to Marion at 11:30 p.m.
MONDAY
12:53 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters briefly were alerted to fire alarm in the basement of a rental unit in the 300 block of W. Grand Ave., but an alarm company called back and reported that it was a false alarm.
1:29 p.m. — An 94-year-old woman who fell and hit her head at Parkside Homes assisted living was taken to HCH by Hillsboro ambulance.
9:07 p.m. — A 33-year-old man with chest plain at a home in the 200 block of Buller St. in Goessel declined to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Goessel first responders were paged twice but did not answer.
11:05 p.m. — A 77-year-old woman who fell and hurt her head and hand at a residence on Lakeshore Dr. near Hillcrest Rd. at Marion County Lake was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.
